Anyone interested in coming to Champ Car at VIR December 3-5 and drive/crew with us? We have 3 confirmed, 1 person just dropped out.
Want at least 1 more to complement the team. Looking for a wrench/driver with some experience on track(not w2w but HPDE/Auto-x).
Please PM me through the GRM board.

incoming.... that's my b-day there.
So planning for VIR in December. Plan is the curent 16x7's with some 215/45R16 Azenis 615k+ and then another set of 16x7 with some 205/45R16 in an all-season in case of some ice/snow/rain.
Anyone have any advice? Are we SOL if it doesnt rain/snow/ice with the 340+ TW tire selection? Looking at some cheap-o Achilles ATR Sport or Accelera Phi-R for the all season needs. If we need more of a name brand it would be BFG Sport Comp-2 A/S which i have used in the past in bad conditions with great success.
I dont want to have to bring 3 sets of wheels. But if we have to then ill buy another set for the wet weather.
Update!
Ordered a new set of 215/45R16 Azenis 615K+ for the second set of wheels. Our plan will be to run 16x7 +42mm wheels with 215's on all 4 corners. Hoping for a bit more grip for the old Elantra.
Other items on our to do list:
-Install Porterfield R4-E pads onto the car.
-Rain Light install and wiring.
-New belt due to the SFI tag on our current set being out of date(expired Nov 2020). New Ultrashield camlock harness with quick adjustment going in.
-Team is looking into radio/comms system.
-Install wider rear view mirror, alot of complaints that you cant see enough behind you once belted in.
-Go Pro will need to be hardwired as batteries wont last full stints.
-Heater(electric) for the interior to keep us warm if needed.
-Replace front control arms since bushings are shot.
-Tie rod replacement - inner and outer - to remove some slop in the steering.
List of things is starting to grow! Yikes. Started working on things yesterday with the rain light installation.

Welp, team wanted in car communications/radio system so we came together and found a good DIY kit.
Sampson Racing:
Roll Bar Radio Box
Shark Fin Phantom Elite Antenna
IMSA Style Car Harness - 6 ft
Water Proof Velcro Mount Push to Talk
IMSA Play Pack IMSA Helmet Kit
Amazon:
BAOFENG BL-5 - Battery Eliminator
BAOFENG BF-F8HP 8watt Radio Kit
This is a start and we will document installing everything to make in car communications possible. Really happy that Sampson Racing has a Champ Car discount code for the teams participating which makes it much more palatable to get into a full radio system.

We are thinking a set of all seasons for the rain/snow on top of the two sets of Azenis. Still up in the air right now as to what wheel/tire we would use for the all-season set.
I can say that the 615's aren' bad in 40's and rain. Much better than the Rivals.
Removed all stickers and went back to just the numbers. Looks a bit cleaner.
The final to do things left on the car:
-Replace front control arms.
- 215/45R16 used Azenis onto second set of new 16x7 wheels.
-205/45R16 all-season tires onto original black set of 16x7 wheels.
- install 2 new window retaining strips to OUTSIDE of back window.
- install TR2 transponder mount and charge transponder.
- tidy up wiring.

I wrote both on the clutch before install. I have an ever growing fear that it will be the first thing to explode.
The clutch won't explode. slip and turn to mush maybe. Just make sure everyone is letting out the clutch fully before going WOT on the upshifts and it'll survive.

Ill make sure to write that on a sticky note and place it on the instrument cluster.

I used to take mine to IRP on Tuesday night drags. That was the key to "longevity" for it.Shift, release clutch..... gas. Trying to feed it throttle while still coming up off the clutch ALWAYS led to that terrible terrible smell we all know.
Two weeks away! Finishing the final touches:
-Replace front control arms.
- 215/45R16 used Azenis onto second set of new 16x7 wheels.
-205/45R16 all-season tires onto original black set of 16x7 wheels.
- install 2 new window retaining strips to OUTSIDE of back window.
- install TR2 transponder mount and charge transponder.
-Pin harness ends per champ car rules
- tidy up wiring and add final cigarette lighter plug for powering cell phone(TrackAddict) or Garmin unit(one driver bought one)
FINAL THINGS TO DO:
-replace front control arms.
- 215/45R16 used Azenis onto second set of new 16x7 wheels.
- install 2 new window retaining strips to OUTSIDE of back window.
We are ready to go. Friday morning we load up for a long haul down to VIR for the Champ Car race. I will try to take pictures of everything to ensure our story gets captured in this thread. I am super excited and very nervous for our first outing but im sure it will all go away once the green gets waived.
