Im glad my personal blend of ocd is rubbing off. It really makes everything easier for the rest of the ownership experience. Next you'll start painting everything....

The Newbaru* is a filthy, dirty thing.
To be fair, the grimy photos don't really do the level of grime any justice.
Current working guesses are:
The previous owner was dumping oil everywhere when filling it up.
The techs working on the car were dumping oil everywhere when filling it up.
Valve covers are leaky as heck.
Any combination of the above three.
*The Newbaru is not the yellow WRX, which is the newest of the Subarus. The newest Subaru is the Bannanaru or Farm Use Subaru, while the second newest Subaru is the 2007 Outback Sport, AKA The Newbaru. The Newbaru was the newest Subaru at the time it got named, and I don't want to cause any sort of identity crisis by changing the name this late in the game.
The fire ants have eaten all of the bait, but are still swarming around.
For some reason, the embed isn't working, so here is the link.
I cleaned up the sub-frames and engine compartment in the Newbaru. It's still not minty clean, but I no longer have to degrease myself if I even brush up against something.
I also just got a line on another WRX with a blown engine and a salvage title locally, owned by another local rallycrosser. I'm going to look at that later today. I think the asking price of $2000 is a bit steep for what's pretty much scrap metal to most people, so maybe I can make the two WRXs work out, budget wise.
(Edit) Ignore everything in this thread about the Newbaru. It's once again 100% a flipper car, and I have to get rid of it quickly, because I'm buying the blown up WRX. Full details on purchase once it's completed. Spoiler: It wasn't $2000.
It has:
This acquisition is really going to complicate which car comes to the challenge. The easy button will be to drop the working engine into the silver, manual car and just send it, but I *really* want to take the yellow car to the Challenge.
I've picked up the silver WRX above, and plan to use parts of it on the Farm Use Challenger.
I managed to put a wicked dent into the hatch using my ass to push it onto the trailer, though.
That'll buff out.
I think I have a shot at getting this thing to the Challenge in budget. The goal is to just get there and finish all of the events.
Receipt for the silver WRX.
A quick inspection showed that the ants are either gone from the Farm Use car, or have moved to a different spot.
I'm getting the Newbaru ready for sale, and hope to have that completed soon. Then I'll start really digging into the Farm Use car and swapping parts around.
New Aisin timing belt and water pump in the Newbaru:
I'm expending minimal effort to get the Newbaru running and driving while also putting in enough money and effort to ensure whoever buys it doesn't buy a grenade with the pin already pulled.
