I had a subscription to Sport Compact Car, and was really excited to see them go through great effort on the then-new B14 SE-R project car to get 200 HP out of the NA SR20DE.  Back then, tuner ads boasted that a K&N cone filter added 5-10 HP, a cat-back exhaust added 10 HP, and tubular headers added 20 HP.  (This was before dyno testing was more commonplace).

Ironically MotoIQ is going to be adding a Sentra SE (4 door 98-99) to their project stable. I'm super stoked for it. There are now guys out there getting close  to 350-375hp out of NA SR20VE motors at this point, full tilt drag cars pulling 10s and high 9s.

My friend Charles is currently building a 2.5 SR, first one I've seen ever, 93mm o ring sleeved block with custom ground crank. Every single thing is DLC coated as well

The days of having a big ol stack of magazines to leaf through are gone, searching through the ads as a broke teen dreaming up my future builds lmao.

I also miss the summit sport compact and JCwhitney catalogs

Ha, I'm constantly bugging him all the time asking for tips and tricks, he's a veritable gold mine of info, and while being a pioneer and trail blazer for this community of B series chassis he won't ever come back. The new group of younger kids with slim pockets, access to cheap cars and little respect drove him off. Drove off lots of great companies and people as well

imagine spending tons of time and your own money to develop high quality parts then watching as the people who showed interest drift off after complaining about the price and buying parts off eBay instead while SIMULTANEOUSLY complaining that the aftermarket doesn't support our cars.

It would make anyone say fuk it haha

All this and a Mike Kojima connection too! This is the greatest FWD Nissan build i've seen since the Sport Compact Car days.  Simply awesome parts and fabrication, and i'm stealing the hot-tank idea.. laughyes

Agreed, that hot tank is an AWESOME idea. I need that in my life/garage. I too was heavily influenced by sport compact car when I was a teen. That's part of the reason I love B chassis cars, among others.

Love this build, my friend had two B13 SE-Rs back in the day, one was SCC's project SE-R that I helped him drive from CA to CT after he bought it from Dave Coleman.

We went to the SR20 Convention at Roebling Road in 2009, one of my best memories was getting destroyed on the straight by a B14 SE-R with a big turbo. He hit 149MPH before he shut it down to make Turn 1. We were doing about 95 MPH as we entered the straight, and he literally passed us as if we were standing still.  I've never seen a car accelerate so hard at 100+ MPH.

I'm enjoying the build so far, can't wait for the finished project!

You are right about the B series platforms, they really don't get the credit they deserve.  I've got a cousin of the B, the P series (P10 Primera/G20) and with all it's issues (autotragic, parts availability) i just cant bring myself to part with it.  And, i've never seen a billet CV axle support bracket in my life.  This build is amazing!

I've had a P10 in the past and while they are fine and the suspension setup is good the aftermarket is even worse than the B chassis and they are porky. Plus without extensive work I find them ugly which is funny since the B13 isnt what most consider an attractive car.

Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.

Also that bracket is made by Mazworx for swapping in the 6 speed transmission. They also make an adapter plate to use the K series Transmission which I may consider in the future

I was at the 2009 convention!  I remember that turbo 200sx as well, it was stupid fast down the straight.

There are still conventions going on. There's one in FL this year in addition there is the West Coast Convention and a new 4 race season called SR20 attack at Streets of Willow.

Due to long lead times I'm not sure if my car will even be finished this year but next year this monster will be moving under it's own power

Super nice work LS8. And I'll 2nd the "LAs Totally Awesome Cleaner" recommendation. They also sell some the best cheap/disposable gloves (the ultra thin transparent kind).

Speedfactoryracing HP intercooler coming directly from them up in WA.

Absolutely beautiful piece. Seems a shame to hide behind a bumper. Its a big ol boy too. Going to require a lot of trimming to get this thing to fit, will also need a front lip since even bumped up high as possible it extends a couple inches below the bumper.

Lots of trimming but it's loosely fitted. I'll be having 2 M6 nuts welded on for the bumper cover bolts as well as one for an additional bracket. The bottom brackets are made out of 1/4 steel flat bar

Currently tackling the intercooler piping as we speak. Due to the design of the manifold and the turbos placement along with the downpipe I am going to have to rethink my radiator fan setup.

There is no way to route the intercooler hotside along the top due to hitting the hood which means it will need to snake it's way along the bottom of the radiator. I need to source a super short radius aluminum bend to fit right up against the radiator and to do a bit more trimming on the radiator support to fix the angle of the piping .  On the plus side the coldside piping was ridiculously easy to do and I had the cuts finished in 5 minutes haha

All the additional couplers are on order and on the way so hopefully I'll have this figured out this week

Any updates on this awesome build?  I have a 1996 Infiniti I30 (A32 Nissan Maxima) that's similar in a lot of ways to the B14, including the rear beam.  I had 2J Racing convert it to a panhard rod about 10 years ago, and just learned that they also offer beam bending to get it to 0 toe.  But when I spoke with Joe about the process, he mentioned they heat up the beam and let it cool repeatedly, which I don't believe was used by the OGs.  I was able to find this awesome thread that goes over how the jig was originally designed for Mike Kojima, and I'm curious to know how similar the 2JR process is to this.

Also, are those FA coilovers custom?  I don't see B14s listed as an application.  How do you like them?  Any thoughts on the Hyperco hydraulic spring perches?  What spring rates did you go with?
