What on earth would be good about what I thought were awful v6s in the pre-2011 Mustangs? Sounds like a step down from the Renesis.
The Renesis performs like a 8500rpm 4cyl, it makes power like mad tite VTEC YO! just kicked in. I would absolutely adore this engine in a NA Miata, not burdened with 3000lbs of near perfect suspension!

Just my thought but for Challenge purposes he can probably recover a lot selling a running Renesis and put the V6 of similar power in for less.
$1000 for the used engine, $250 for the new lightweight flywheel and $250 for the wonderful 6 speed transmission

I agree, I wish the rx8 was about 500 lbs lighter it would feel much faster but i find myself under matched the to car. I can't drive it as fast as it can drive. however I have only had on road experience with it, I really need to take it out of the track next season.

Try $350 for the flywheel, and $500 for the Transmission.

Even without the torque, and with the lightweight flywheel, there were only 8 cars who beat the raw time on the autocross (we were penalized a cone, even though we never saw it).
So, light flywheel, bad tires, full street weight, still managed a top 10 autocross.
There is plenty of Challenge potential left in that car!

Maybe if you'd seen it you wouldn't have hit it.

I wasn't driving. A pro was driving, and 3 of us were watching.
So a semi local has had an engineless RX8 up for sale on CL and in his ad he mentions parts for an LS swap. He's lowered the price on his car twice and honestly if I had the extra coin I would just buy it swap all the RXh8 stuff into it and rallycross it. Since I'm more broke than smart I emailed him asking if he would like to swap engines. He gets his running and can ask more for it, I get my project started and that's important.
So guess who will be the proud owner of a cammed 5.3L (w/harness and ECU) next weekend?
Anyone need a $350 flywheel?

Interesting - this is relevant to my rx8 swap interests. I'm going to check out a 1JZGTE swapped RX8 that looks to be well done and clean... I drove an LS1 swapped RX8 last year and it was a riot. It seems like the rear end gearing is an issue as it's really low. The stock rear ends will apparently hold 400ish hp so don't think it's a capability issue. It seemed that the Explorer or Mustang rear ends are the easy button at the lowest cost to sort the gearing.

What a perfect scenario! Well done.

But you won't be able to use it - and that huge front splitter - to plow your driveway this winter?

Well I'm hoping that all of the snow will, you know, miss us.
Yay! LS swap all the things!
I was looking forward to seeing you swap some oddball E36 M3 around.
Well the LS owner swap fell through it fear not. In the vein of Keep It Simple Stupid I started looking around at what I have, what I want and what I will need to get what I want.
In front of my garage is the _armtruck a 1989 Chevrolet C2500 that has 175k and it had the nose knocked off it last summer, it ain't been right since. Starts up pretty much every time you hit the key.
I am into the truck for $186. I bought it from Kelly's dad after the accident with the intent of putting a new front clip on it and keeping it as a beater truck. It's far too beat for anything but what follows.
I am going to pull the engine and transmission as well as som other minor bits and put a new set of bearings and gaskets in it as well as a new cam and timing chain then toss an intake and a carb on it with a plug and play distributor and call it a day. The transmission was a good working unit and I will drop a 4.3L torque converter and a filter kit in it and see if I can plums one of the RX8 oil coolers to be a trans cooler.
There will be a springtime garage sale that will include all of the RX8 drivetrain components as well as the C2500 shell and what is left of a parts 2003 Miata that has mostly complete suspension, differential and wheels with Falkens on them.
Does the miata have good bilstien on it?

Uncertain which it has, the car was a very nice rust bucket. Pretty sad case too, rusted from the middle down!
I will check it out tonight to verify
If so, would you be willing to part with them early? The bilstien on my dd miata are DEAD.
So here's the deal, the car was sprayed with an underbody rust inhibitor. It didn't work on the body it rusted from the inside out. The owner sprayed everything. EVERYTHING... I can't tell you what shocks they are but I can say that at least two forum members knew the previous owner and until the car split in half it was a perfectly normal running and driving Miata.
Make an offer and I'll get them to you. You can't offend me on a lowball.

ol skool SBC in an RX8? sounds fun!
Looks like the first order of business is rearranging the Garage M'Haul. Shout when you see the Miata. It's in there, so is a 1994 Spirit, 2004 RX8, 2007 Craftsman LT1500, John Deere 455, MTD 2 stage walk behind snow blower, five bicycles, a dual fuel charcoal and gas grille, Mr. Nelsons LS engine and nearly all of my master bathroom winter project.
Your shop still looks better than mine.
Thats my 2 car attatched garage
