I know the later 9-5s switched to plastic fuel connectors from the banjos that worked fine for years to save a few bucks or something.
Banjos have never worked fine for years. Banjos freakin' suck. Plastic connectors don't rust, and they can be easily rebuilt.

No issues with the banjos for me (yet), but on my GTI I spent a few hours battling with a plastic connector and ultimately had to cut it off.
Of course, now I'm guaranteed to have a banjo fail spectacularly next fuel filter change .

This car has plastic fittings at the pump, and banjos at the filter. I'm double screwed. Luckily I got them both apart OK.

Tough nut to crack!
Thanks to the saab forums for suggesting a 4" PVC Clean-out adapter modified into a custom tool.
Now I just need to figure out how the pump fits out the hole in the tank. It's like a puzzle...
Lol at your pvc tool. I just used two crossed over large flatheads on my 9000. Sad to see that you had to drop the tank to replace the pump. My 9000 had a large enough access hole to wrangle it out of.
May have missed it but have you done a compression test now that it'll crank?

I'm glad I got in now for this journey. Waiting for the title resolution and key issue would have been rough, but now this starting issue needs to be fixed. You can do eet!

Well technically the title issue isn't fully resolved. I still need to have the car inspected by the state patrol so I can be issued a title. That was supposed to happen today, but my trailer ride fell through and I had something come up with work. It's been rescheduled for 2 weeks, and hopefully I can drive it there on a trip permit.
I do have a notarized bill of sale from the guy I got it from, and a notarized release of interest from the last registered owner, as well as photos and receipts of repairs so knock on wood it should go smoothly.

Pump removed.
The new one is on track to arrive tomorrow. I had to cut the old line off the barb on the fuel pump. I can't find any 1/4" submersible fuel line locally, so hopefully the original fuel line is long enough and cooperates using the "dip in hot water and shove onto the barb" method.
There was some junk in the cannister.
I tested the old pump after removal, of course it works fine now.
This thread is awesome! I can't believe I'm just catching up.
Hey, if it's working, put it back in and fire that puppy up!
Anyhoo, +1 on Gary Small in Portland. Great bunch of knowledgeable enthusiasts, well stocked parts department (we bought our 9-3 Aero from there)
Good to see UPS is berkeleying up your timeline as hard as they can

Well the heat and shove method didn't work on the stock plastic line, and it is berkeleying impossible to find 1/4 or 6 mm submersible fuel line locally. There goes the weekend.
Really? My hoe dunk town has plenty in stock at the big three stores. Your looking for sae 30r10 approved hose (printed on the hose) careful lots of counter jockeys will sell you whatever hose they got in 1/4 in

I've tried the local 3 NAPAs, oriley, autozone and a few independent shops. Only one NAPA even acted like the knew it was a thing. I guess I can drive around and look at the hoses. Which local shops in your area stock it?

I give up. Take my money Amazon. Nobody stocks it, and they can only order 5/16, with a week lead time. I can't even find 1/4" nylon line like the original stuff. It's all 5/16 and larger. Grrrrr
I got the pump mounted at least. What a PITA getting the rubber mount on the top of it. I finally got it with lots of lube, heat and pressing it as hard as I could against my chest. I now look like I got in a fight with an octopus where the round bottom of the pump dug into me.
Picked it up from autozone, I asked the counter LADY and she came back with the right stuff somehow haha.. ask politely if you can see what they got in the back. I promise its back there.

I tried looking around in the back of O'Reillys (the only chain that had it listed on their website) and none of it was submersible rated. I decided to wait until today to order it so I could try a few places that weren't open over the weekend. Still no luck. Went to order from amazon and they wanted (I E36 M3 you not) $70 for 2 day shipping. Regular $10 shipping had it arriving next Monday. For some reason Walmart has this stuff on their website, so I ordered from them. $28.27 total, will be here Thursday.
