A BMX build that's more than a decade in the making

And it's super, super rare, but Kappa made a tribute.

So, some updates on the Skyway as it's been five years since I last posted in this thread. (Where does the time go?)

In the spring of 2018 (I know, going way back), I took the Skyway to the Spring Fling in St. Augustine. It's basically a big old-school BMX get-together. 

We stopped by the track the first evening up there. Someone asked if we planned to race. No, not really.

Then my friend Chelsea, who did much of the heavy lifting on the build, asked if she gave me that look. How could I say no?

I remember her running in three classes that night–might have been something like open, women's and retro. 

Anyway, she won every moto, every main.

I basically carried her to the truck, and then we went to dinner. 

At the next day's show, one of the owners (now former owner) of Skyway gave the build his approval. :)

Time to head home, so the Skyway went back into the truck. 

In the summer of 2018, I published my first zine. The wheel on the cover might look familiar. 

In December 2018, I took the bike to an old-school BMX event down in South Florida. 

Somehow I won the best retro trophy.

Published my second zine that winter, but my S&M made that cover. 

January 2019: another set of Graphite Tuff Wheels. 

May of 2019, another old-school BMX event, this one out past St. Pete. 

I forget the reason, but the Skyway was on those second Tuffs and with Comp II-type tires. 

And now today–well, last week, technically–where the bike went to Radwood atop our Porsche 911. (I went back to the Graphite Tuffs with the blue tires.)

The bike went to Amelia Island and back in the car, though, since we had just fit the rack the night before.

And then the bike went back together. That's where we are today, and thanks for following along. 

The Skyway got out this weekend as I again had it on display atop the Porsche 911 at the Hilton Head Island Concours. 

It's a weird testament to the imprinting of my youth that the Skyway gets a different and maybe even stronger visceral reaction from me than the 911. It's insane.

You weren’t the only one. Lots of foot traffic this weekend. I was parked next to a McLaren. People walked right past it. 

Small update: still need to get the bike out of the 911 and back together....
