Great news everyone, I picked up a beautiful midnight blue 2006 Cayman S last week with only ~52k on the clock! This is by far the nicest vehicle I've ever owned, and with the fewest miles. I really like how the color pops in the sunlight. The purple you see in the photos below isn't an artifact from my camera, that's actually how it looks in the right light.

I was looking for the option sticker and it was not present under the frunk lid or in the maintenance log book like The Internet™ assured me it would be. However, I did find a VIN search tool online that gave the complete list:

Pretty darn solid list if you ask me. I like to think that's how I'd have specced this car if I bought it new. Coincidentally, this is the first car I've ever owned with heated seats. I'm really moving up in the world.

Heated seats? You think you're too good for us now? wink

Congrats on the purchase, and I hope you get many more miles of enjoyment out of it.

Thanks y'all. I was pretty happy to find one that wasn't silver or gray.

That is a great looking car! I like the ones that have the silver accent across the lower front of the car.

I thought it was sun-faded black until I got the car home, haha.

As my daughter says: Fun fact about Caymans, only the '06 launch Cayman S has the silver chin. '07 went to body color and the base Cayman was launched.

Congrats! Drive the thing!

In 2016 the Cayman's finally came into my price range (30k) to buy one(also the most expensive car to date). I bought a Cobalt Blue 42k mile 2007 S out in CA. This Spring it turned 100k.

It's been to the Tail of the Dragon 2x, across country 5 times (one way), on multiple other trips, and is/was my DD in the warm weather. Up here in NH I can usually get from late April to mid-November with it. Been caught in a 1/2" sleet/slush storm once and thought I was going to die getting home from work, that was this April.

It's a bit banged up,shows it's age a bit, but garners attention every where I go with it. It's modded slightly with bigger GiroDisk brakes and a Soul Performance exhaust. Stops and sounds amazing.

FYI- one of my favorite tales of it was the second day driving it home (after a PCA run of about 275 miles) my wife says to me: "I love this thing". I asked her why, she replied: "After 2 10 hour days in it my butt does not hurt." It was awesome to hear.

It was also her choice to get as the two P-cars I was looking at was a G-911 or a Cayman S. She chose the Cayman.

I have zero regrets after so many smiles.

berkeleying have fun! Such a good car.

Fingers crossed I'll have a very similar ownership experience, because that sounds great.

How's that Soul exhaust? Any drone in the cabin? The intake noises are intoxicating and I bet a little more exhaust sound would be delightful.

The one at 911R's? Well snap, now I might have to drag the 944 down!

I drove a Cayman S once, I should not have. It ruined all other cars for me.

Dang! I'm jealous. That shop has some of the best auctions on BaT of any seller! Please do a trip review post after the fact.

This is exactly how I ended up in my 987.

Congrats on the Cayman, they are fantastic cars, to this day I struggle to justify how I'd ever quantify the money to upgrade to a 911 of a similar vintage, the handling is just too good!

It has been epic to own this car.

The Soul exhaust does drone a bit in the car but I have other circumstances that affect that, mostly no insulation on the inside engine cover. Mine is clear lexan with no heat shield or insulation/carpet, etc. The exhaust sounds amazing inside and outside of the car. I did lose 1/2 of my converters though so take that into consideration (I am in an inspection loophole). No engine codes either. There is a short crappy cell phone vid of the sound in my thread I think, does not do it justice. I think there is a before and after video in there too maybe if not it is on I will link them after my wife uploads/sends them to me. Here is a teaser of after at least until the LS starts howling:

The clear engine cover also lets me hear the intake sounds quite distinctly with a whoosh every time the throttle opens.

A consideration for you though is you will waste rear tires in about 15k miles and the fronts in about 30k. I'd have to reread my cars thread but I do not think I have had any huge repairs since I have owned it (forgiving the fuel rail which was due to UV light coming through the cool clear cover), mostly just consumables (clutch, tires, etc.). Also the service intervals can be expensive, my 90k one was almost $4k but covered a ton of stuff. I am ready to do an oil change on the car so you may want to sit down: Doing it myself is about $150, so far I am into it for $77 for a new magnetic plug and the filter I still need to buy 9 quarts of Mobile 1...

I've been preparing myself for a few months to accept the cost of an oil change and the other consumables. It's a pretty big change from my old Miatas and stuff, haha

I got a chance today to remedy the biggest issue with my Cayman: the tires it came with were terrible. They were old, loud, and hard. Three things your sports cars tires shouldn't be.

The wheel bolts were even rusty! Huge faux pas.

The seller agreed to split a set of new tires with me, and to install them for free. His shop was getting a new tire machine and he wanted the practice. So I placed an order with him for a set of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s before I even officially owned the car. Classic GRM move. They actually arrived before I picked the car up, but the tire machine was stuck in shipping hell until this week. I figured that since I already needed new wheel bolts to replace the rusty ones, I might as well get some spacers to get the wheels nice and flush with the fenders: 7mm in the front and 15mm in the rear.

Rennline is very proud of these spacers (surprise!) but at least the boxes are nice.

I got a bag o' bolts and a wheel hanger too. That little thing made swapping the spacers around pretty darn simple.
