Great work!  How's the PO doing?  He'd probably be happy to see it driving!

In reply to Lof8 - Andy :

He would have been very pleased, but sadly I received this email from his wife recently:

"Brian,

This is Jean (last name removed) and I wanted to let you know about Steve. He passed away on January 20. He was at home and just went to sleep.

He kept up with the blog on the P1800 as long as possible and was happy that it was in good hands. I hope you and your sons continue to enjoy it.

Sincerely,

Jean"

Awww, RIP.  I'm happy that you are continuing his legacy with this project though, that makes me happy.

Congrats on the first drives!

33 Days until we leave for Gainesville!

Saturday garage day.  I'm gonna give some bullet points of things we did and then give y'all a photo dump

  • 100% nut and bolt check on suspension and brakes
  • Oil change
  • Front sway bar mounted (needed to be spaced down 3/4", so Gariation fabbed a spacer)
  • Reinstalled radiator and filled it
  • Front turn signal lens installed
  • Headlight wiring zip tied up
  • Oh, and we got several test drive laps in yes๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘

Edit:  puked some coolant, maybe just air pockets or need a thermostat.

Also I'll try and get some drive videos posted. And with all the excitement of the day, we neglected to take a team selfie, which is a bummer, because Gariation oldest two were playing with Indy-kid #6 (who tagged along for the first time that day)

I will be interested in  hearing how it feels driving  around the cones. The ackerman has moved forward with the extension of the front frame section and I wonder what it will translate to when the car is driven in anger.

I have not driven the Molvo around any cones, but my feeling is that it is less agile than the stock Miata chassis. That might be the extra weight, the big engine or the chassis geometry from the extension.

Any chance that this car will get weighed along the way? Be curious to see where it ends up with the new body and same engine.

The car makes us look so much cooler than we are! Haha! It's been a great time putting the car together. We couldn't have done it without Steve's vision to get the car as far as he did! I hope he is smiling down on us all!

Big shoutout to Indy-Guy and his kids!!! He got the whole thing started!

It truly is a team effort.

Update: we've been battling a "not charging" condition on the alternator.  We almost pulled the trigger on just buying a new one (you know, fire the parts cannon ๐Ÿš€)

Good thing Gariation is chill and traced the problem to a faulty wire going from the PCM to the alternator.

In other news, we're going to try and make the test and tune session for the Columbus Indiana chapter of the SCCA.  This weekend!!

More news: Michael (Dusterb13) is working on bringing us some plan B wheels and we may need to get them mounted with tires once we arrive in Gainesville.

It's getting down to the wire. 30ish days left

That looks awesome driving down the street. I see you are staying with the thought that real men don't need bonnets on their hot rods!

Yes sir yes.  I also love seeing your car.  It's what inspired Steve to create this awesome machine.

Garage night again last night, and I seem to have neglected to take a single picture ๐Ÿ˜”

Both Indy-boys were present along with Garithon.  Here's some bullet points of accomplishments

  • Wire grommets installed on some of the pass through areas (headlights)
  • New alternator excitor wire routed.  We now have a Functioning Alternator!  Hurray!
  • Tightened driveshaft bolts.
  • Filled transmission with fluid (it was COMPLETELY empty!)
  • Got the battery completely installed.
  • Discussed the process of getting it street legal and driving. As well as confirmation that neither one of us will own it outright, the team will own it jointly yes
  • Plotted and discussed Concourse theme, tire selection/purcy, and travel plans.

It's getting closer!

Indiana has a process, we've been in communication with the BMV, and know the hoops that we have to jump through.  Now all that's left is the "jumping"

So what are you going to register the car as? Volvo, Miata or Homebuild?

In order to keep things simple, I consider the Miata in my build to be a floorpan repair panel.

In reply to NOHOME :

It's a 1964 Volvo P1800.

Bill of Sale states it as such, and so does the VIN.

It will be titled, plated and insured that way too.

It just so happens to have an engine swap, oh, and a suspension upgrade too ๐Ÿ˜‰
