I wasn't in the market for another car but this came along and I really couldn't pass it up. It was my mother in laws that she bought in 2013 as CPO 1 owner car with 35k on it (it's a 2011).

She bought for in her words, "I'm older and I want a hot rod again!"  Her and my step father in law (if that's the right way to say) were big on Harley riding with there friends and they wanted something fast but comfy and roomy enough to drive places when it wasn't nice enough to take the Harley.

A couple of years later my step father in law passed away unexpectedly so she really stopped driving the car as she doesn't really go anywhere and when she does she has a beater CRV she would rather drive. It's been sitting in her pole barn covered not moving for pretty much the last 3 years. She's had decent trade in offers and a couple of other people interested in buying but for some reason just never parted with it.

Well a couple of months ago we were talking about cars and she asked me if I wanted it. I told her it's value was a little rich for my blood right now and she fired back with "if you give me $X you can have it. I'd like you to have it."  It was too good of a price to pass up so now I'm the proud owner of a 2011 B8S4 with 42k on it. Yeah she only put 7k on in 7 years which includes a trip from Michigan to North Carolina in 2014.

so here it is.

First thing I did was put an intake on it. I know it's likely sucking hotter air but I really love the supercharger whine so I couldn't help myself...

That's a beauty! And a touching story to accompany the acquisition as well. Looks to be in spectacular shape for the mileage.

What are your modification plans beyond the intake?

Honestly it has plenty of power for me to be happy with for now so I'm going to focus on stopping and handling. I've not done that much research for proper setups on this car yet. I'm going to see how the brake do at a track day in a couple of weeks and then maybe go BBK after I tear through them.

i want to see if I can do anything to get me lower in the car. Me with a helmet is pretty much touching the roof.

Man that is sharp!

I would look into software as well. I bet there is some extra power to be had.

I think stage one tunes are pretty safe for reliability and add decent numbers so I'll probably look into. I've been spending money mostly on service since it's been sitting so long and buying things to work on it myself so I don't have to pay those German car service rates.

Manual?

If be super interested in seeing how the B8 S4 compares to my A4. I'm sure it's a rocket ship! Looks fantastic.

Yupp it's a 6 speed manual. It feels very fast. One of my favorite things is it feels like it just keeps pulling through the whole RPM range. Granted my last fun car was an FRS that has the famous torque dip.

Sweet car...Is that a catch can next to the air intake?

Nope, no catch can on the car. If you're looking at that second little red thing next to the big filter that's the secondary air intake.

Huge power gains with just a tune, then a bit more if you go to a smaller pulley.  These are heavy cars, not the greatest to track or auto-x.  On the track in particular you're going to have issues managing the heat and the brakes.

I hear the weight thing a lot. I'm guessing I could buy a whole different car for the amount I would spend on bigger brakes and consumables.

Love the S4! My wife's old boss kept promising to sell me his, it was babied and low miles and he gave things away because he had tons of money. He ended up giving it to a wife or girlfriend or something. Damn, I should have slept with him.

Fixed that for you

We have a B8 A4 Quattro 2.0T/MT6 with a lot of modifications to it. I hope to track day it (if they ever open up). It's a little lighter than the S4, but not by that much.

Might want to check for a tune then.  My stock B8.5 starts wheezing out around 6250 RPM to readline.  I know tunes allow it to have more of a hard limiter than stock.

Nice car!

I'll have to look into that. I know the MIL didn't do anything but maybe the original owner did play a bit.

In reply to Javelin (Forum Supporter) :

Have you had any of the oil consumption issues? My sister in law has a 2012 with 2.0T and it's eating a quart or so every 1,000 miles. She's try to see if she can get it retroactively repairs under that settlement from Audi but I'm thinking she isn't going to have much luck.

In reply to MrLittle :

Yup, we're battling it right now. We were up to a quart every 350 miles until I replaced the AOS, which was already the upgraded B8.5 part. The class action is long over with and ours has 120k on it, so we're sol. I'm thinking about putting a giant turbo on it and a complete catch can system with a vacuum pump, making it as much of a dry sump as possible.

Got my final box of goodies to do the service on brakes for my first track day. Didn't need the scan tool necessarily but from what I read you can do all sorts of neat things with it. Apparently it can retract the calipers so you don't have to press them in and release the electric parking brake. Also, I plan to do all of my own service and without it I'd have to take it to the dealer to reset the lights. So if anyone in Michigan needs VW or Audi codes read, I'm your guy!

Also huge shoutout to ECS tuning. I've noticed their prices are competitive and their shipping is fast. I ordered that scan tool at like 2pm yesterday and it came today with free shipping.

You're going to absolutely torch those pads at the track if you carry any sort of speed.  Street pads on a heavy car like the S4 are not a great combo.

Yeah I've been told that. This is my first track day so I don't expect to be diving deep into corners heavy on the brake. More trying to learn driving lines and proper track etiquette. Don't get me wrong I'm not planning to crawl around the track either so I'm fully comfortable with these pads being gone after the one event and buying new pads and rotors after.

At some point that's actually harder on the brakes than being aggressive. Double the braking time at 50% of the braking force probably builds about the same amount of heat and is hot for longer, heat soaking everything around the pads more.

My experience with them has been that the dust is reasonable, they just kinda....aren't great. They did survive a track day on my fiesta st...barely. Definitely not what I would have picked if I was planning on it being an actual track car, rather than a one time track event followed by daily driving and maybe an occasional autocross. IMO hawk makes some pads that are decent for street/autocross use and some pads that are decent on track, but not anything that does both. Well, the HP+ works decently on the street as long as you don't mind people being able to hear the brake squeal from a mile away. If you want an all in one pad, I'd look elsewhere.
