Ever since a friend recommended me trying to sell a cheap car on the GRM forums (an 87 MR2 by happenstance) I've been browsing the classifieds and posting some ads. That's how I got on the forums, now onto how I ended up with car.
I volunteer with a club at Lime Rock for free admission and other cool benefits. This year I got a friend of mine involved in the club and at one point talking he mentioned wanted to run in 24 Hours of Lemons. It had definitely been on my list to do at some point.
So in my browsing of the $2014 classified I found this thread. So you want to build a MR2 race car ... cheap?
I wasn't thinking about it for myself too much but passed the link onto my friend. His response was, "Hell yes!!!" So we went about trying to figure out how to get it, his family's truck was down, my Jeep didn't have a trailer hitch yet. So in the end it was running and driving (just no or weak reverse AUTO) so we drove down to NJ and picked it up. Made a two hour drive home just fine.
So we got the car back and haven't gotten anything done yet, so a perfect time to start a build thread because we don't have anything we need to catch up on.

*Already pre-crashed!
Free and runs and drives? That's worth having to get out and push.
How bad is the front? It looks like they got it mostly straight.

No working speedometer in it but I hit somewhere close to 90 mph on the way home according to my friend having to keep up with me. Has a slight vibration though the wheel, pretty faint goes for a couple seconds then stops, then repeats.
The front is mostly straight they did a good job, but we haven't propped the hood open yet to really check. In reading some of the lemons rules mentioning OEM hood and crash structure, etc. Does that mean our fake carbon "frunk" has to get replaced with OEM steel?

Long time, no update... But that's only because nothing has happened until now.
Picking up or getting delivered to an intermediate location (my parent's house) an rusted out MR2 with a 5 speed to complete the swap. It's rusted horribly. The ad stated seat falling through the floor and they weren't kidding, the 10 feet I drove it the seat was scraping on the ground.
Pictures coming soon.
Lemons is off the table for this year, we're looking more to some autocross and rallycross with it. Anything cheap to start out with.
