Progress kinda. Last drive around the yard then up on the Quickjacks.

So I have this Touareg im pulling apart as well and guess what they are 5x130 bolt pattern too!

But sadly offset doesn't agree with the Boxster suspension...

If I made this into a cart I would have thought about having it be an  off road style and use the square Touareg setup.

So hoping someone sees this and comments. I was thinking today if I keep the blue one rolling to make a kart between all the cutting, plate welding, fabrication to adapt it would it be similar ease to just drop the subframes and build a custom frame that they could bolt into?

Mind you this is not going to be Road going it would be off-highway use only so I don't need the chassis/vin to register the vehicle.

I would basically start building something flat to mount the subframes to, then build up to pick up the upper suspension mounts,  then be building the cage up, and finally small mounting points for cluster, radiator, etc.

Seems doable.  Likely more work & time and a bit more $$.  Probably look better as an end result.  What are your priorities for the project?

Obviously, anything is doable, but it's not going to be a easy as, say, making a locust or exoset out of a Miata due to the boxster using the frame to do the front suspension mounting.  If you can keep that intact, it'll be a ton less work than trying to build your own frame and suspension mounting points (and all the fiddly-ness that goes along with that) from scratch.

The nice thing about at least retaining the floor and cross car beam (the structure that holds up the dash and steering column in most cars) is that it provides a convenient jig for locating the two ends of the car relative to one another, ensuring the steering geometry is correct for the wheelbase of the car, and makes getting the ergonomics for seat and control placement a lot easier. Definitely possible to start with just the subframes and interpolate from there, but don't underestimate the amount of figuring out there is to do when it comes to replacing all the stuff you're getting rid of between them.

Priority should really be on getting everything ready for the silver shell arrival and focusing on getting that "together" first. I have something else that I could use as an easier frame building exercise before a Boxster kart anyways.

I guess I'll focus on that for now and push this idea off for now.

Definitely agree it would or could look nicer, anything is possible. For some of those measurements I was thinking I could copy them before getting rid of the shell. So I would know those placements already, so less worry than trying to figure them out. Plus some I would want to change possibly. Like shorten wheelbase some to be more KTM X-Bow like or change steering column placement to make it a single center seat design.

Too many projects.

Hmm keep parting or this.. Mind you I haven't sold anything just removed pieces, had a ton of requests with no replies after prices or asking to ship big parts across the country.

So I'm losing some parts I need. Transmission, radiators, shifter. BUT if the the agreed price is right it's done, nothing else to pull apart. I can keep some stuff I removed already and still sell. Then I can turn attention to the other vehicle, Touareg I need to part out.

That's a tough call, but it does make sense if you get good money for it. Having it all gone without taking the time to strip it all down and wait for buyers is worth a lot. Calculate prices for what you are going to need (local junkyards and eBay) and make sure you are covered.

I could even sell you the parts, but shipping would probably make it impractical. If the silver car is coming through Oklahoma on I-40 I could toss a transmission and pair of radiators in it as it passes by (not sure if I want to give up a shifter).

Thanks for the offer of parts. Not sure which way it's coming through exactly.

I put out a number of $2800 for it as it sat to the person interested.

Running, moving, and the dash too, and wheels.

Missing not including brake calipers (all removed), steering wheel, interior, body panels, door, bumpers, etc. No exhaust or catalysts.

He said it was out of his budget. I asked what his budget was. He said $1500 or less. Plus he has a long drive (3.5 hours / 160 miles each way) and would have to rent a trailer.

I think my number was pretty fair considering I saw an engine sold on eBay for $1700. Granted it did have the catalyst still attached.

But there's a lot of parts still on it to sell it as is. Engine, transmission, axles, subframes, wheels, a/c compressor, instrument cluster, radiators.

I guess I'll keep responding to the FB Marketplace responds which includes gems like, "Hello, how much you want for the front half of the car?"

From the pictures of the silver car it does have a shifter in it, but I'm assuming since it was a 6 speed "S" that the shifter is different. Maybe the cables are the same but the gate would have to be different.

The shifters are actually interchangeable even though the pattern is different.  The cables on the S are shorter and linkage on the transmission is different.

I've seen plenty of 2.7L engines offered at over $2,000 plus shipping. If I was closer I already would have tried to pick yours up as a spare.

When I talked to Steve last, he did mention an empty trailer on the way back and maybe someone on GRM needing something brought back...

I'll ponder that for a week or so. If you don't get a buyer for the engine locally and I can work out a way to meet Steve, pretty sure I'll do it.

I can confirm that the week of July 24th I'll be meandering my way across the country on my back from Dan's in CT to my home in NM with an empty truck and trailer and OK could easily be on the way.  If you're interested shoot me a PM and we can talk details.

Thanks Steve, I'll be in touch later this week. If you are nearby on 7/25 I'm off work and can travel to meet you if needed. From the 26th through August 1st I'm working a 7am to 7pm day shift, so it gets a bit more complicated.

For those who are following along at home; the silver shell is loaded in my trailer for it's trip to Dan0's and negotiations have been made for me to deliver the an engine from Dan0 to AAZCD-Jon's place in Oklahoma on my way home.

Steve, Dan, How about this: $4,000 for the Honda 'unseen'. Steve drops it off in Oklahoma and drives off into the sunset with a red Fiero GT in the trailer?

Picture is from the FB ad when I bought it a year ago. Lots of details could be discussed if there's potential, but I know that Mrs AAZCD would be a lot happier seeing a cute little drivable Honda in the driveway instead of a not-quite-running project car in a line of not-quite-running project cars. I could consider the Fiero as payment for the haul.  ...the Fiero is not that great, but has lots of potential. wink

I'm working on making a hole in the line of project cars. If I can meet the shipping deadline, I'll go for it. Steve was polite in our offline discussion, but I don't think I convinced him to take the Fiero. I've got the wrecked Camry Hybrid on Marketplace and checking with some local friends to work a satisfactory exit for the Fiero.
