Found that article, good bit of info there. Im going to insert it here for any future reference. Looks like i may not have to modify it much if any, my mounting flange to mounting flange is 51 inches, there is a reference to 3 different models in the DJ5s one, the one they like the most for the MG is the 51.5 inch flange to flange, that will work as is.My wheels have a weird offset, Miata/ RX7 wheels.

I just didnt know that there were alternatives for the lug patterns on that axle. I believe you are in south eastern Ga. ,do you know anywhere I can locate one of those axles? Im in south eastern Fl. I did a few searches but not to much luck. Thanks.

I was able to find a Dana 44 narrow trac locally, its the right width for the van, 51.5 mounting flange to mounting flange, 44.5 between the brake backing plates. It came out of a 70s CJ5, it came with a bunch of rusted junk attached that I had to remove. Next thing to do is have the mounting flange pilots machined down and then have the axles re-drilled for 4x100. I am going to order a disc brake kit for it and have the discs re-drilled too.

I have everything ready for the machine shop for next week to get the axles and rear discs changed to 4 lug. I went with 2005 Ford Crown Vic rear discs and calipers, they just barely fit with the caliper inside the 15 inch wheel. Its the largest i could find that i didnt have to have to much taken off the diameter of the mounting flange where it would cut into the old 5 lug pattern ,only have to cut the o.d. Down 3/16 to fit into the back of the disc. The center bore of the disc was small enough to allow for the 4x110 pattern too. It was tricky to find the right combination. I will post a pic of the Very Little clearance of the rear setup.

While the axle shafts and discs are away at the machine shop,I made the air cleaner shorter to accommodate the new dog box (engine cover) i built. Just needs some foam gaskets to seal it to the floor and some sort of latch system.

Couple updates, I have the electrical all done, the dash new buttons installed etc, the parts are back from the machine shop finally, there was quite a bit of machine work ahead of mine and my was pretty complex given the odd request. I have installed the air filters into the air box, I just need to put the axle back together, and fab up the caliper brackets, install the axle and measure for the Road Smith Trike drive shaft which they make for the GL1800 to Danna 44 in their kits. Welded up a hole to be re-drilled when going to 4 lug. 5 lug to 4 lug conversion, drum to disc conversion, 1975 Jeep Dana 44 Short Trac with 2005 Ford Grand Marquis rear disc brakes.

New Bearings The outside lip of the axle flange had to be beveled to allow the disc to fit flush, the pilot on the axle had to be turned down to fit the disc pilot hole. The axle mounting flange had to be turned down on one due to it having run out, the rear of the mounting flange had to be turned down to allow for the studs to seat on a flat surface. Thank You Ben (Its Ben Modified)for the idea and link to do this conversion, Quiet a bit of work.

Mocked up the exhaust today, still have to make some mounts etc. The mufflers are from a late model Harley Davidson FLH, I think it sounds pretty good...

I am going to ask a very non-GRM question.

what kind of gas mileage you expecting?

In reply to Flight Service:

Im guessing it should get at least 25-28, could get a few more, the motorcycles get around 36, but they have 2 less tires and weigh 250lbs less. Whatever the mileage I will have a big smile on my face....

Finally got the drive shaft yoke to complete the shaft and get this thing rolling again, If it stops raining long enough I will get it installed and take it for a spin.

Is this for the rear axle?

Yes it is, it looks like it needs a pinion nut right? Lol the new black yoke goes on the output shaft of the engine and the Dana receives the bearing caps into its pinion yoke. On the Goldwing they use large spring to force the driveshaft forward to keep it mated to the output shaft. In my setup it just so happened to be the exact length I needed to make it work and have about a 1/4 inch of play. I'm going to do 1 of 2 things, either shorten the driveshaft 2 inches and find a stiff spring to ride inside the telescoping splined shaft cavity forcing forward pressure on the front yoke, or putting a set screw in the side of the front yoke and making a flat spot on the output shaft for it to bite on.
