I had a great idea that to create a pretty serious 66% anti-dive I could just invert the front A-arm mount.....but no

The factory mounts are 20mm offset, no way that is fitting unless I cut a chuck of frame out.  For sure 0 will fit and that will yield 34% anti-dive.  I think 10mm drop will fit and that yields 50% so 34-50 somewhere is where I'll end up.  I need to pick up some metal and longer bolts so I can get the camber I think I'm going to want.  Then I will set the roll center height with the ball joint spacer that I hope works the on the car the way it works in my head.

Thank you for the term barrel bolt.  I had been looking for them for the Mini and couldn't think of the term and ended up buying some very long coupling nuts, with the intention of chucking them up in a lathe to turn most of them round, and pressing/welding a washer to them.

Could you invert the A-arm mounts and preserve the correct offset by swapping sides...left for right and visa versa?

Or have I just had my 7th bad idea for the day?

In reply to GladlyTheCrossEyedBear :

Sadly all 4 front lower a-arm mounts are identical.  The rears are similar but with a much longer bolt so no way the just move things a round.  I grabbed a chuck of steel though and will whip out what I need in the coming days.

My dyno sold but the rollers stayed... they are free to a good home ( which is any home that isn't my shop floor).  The roller part is about 8"dia x 29" long, just over 36" overall length, bearing seem good.

Ok I'm confused? How come you didn't have them take the rollers and let them dispose of them if they bought the dyno?

The injectors are are there way home....out of spec.  Injector Dynamics puts them into set with under 3% total  error and these are now 5.4%.  They are also too old to get replacements for the out of spec injectors so I need to buy a new set of live with it.  For that reason they only charges me for the return shipping which was incredibly nice.  I have cylinder trim tables so with the info on the graphs I can note what cylinder what injector goes into and even them out in the trim so not the end of the world and not worth a new set just yet.  They are on their way home so I need to work fast on the suspension...my local hardware store only had 2 bolts each of the sizes I needed, need to find some more in the coming days.

On the graph chart are those 12 individual injectors they are testing?  I'm going with the 3-10 is the pulse width to replicate idle to wot? I've seen injectors flow benched before just never saw a graph for it.

In reply to brad131a4 (Forum Supporter) :

Yes, 12 injectors tested.  These are from Injector Dynamics, each injector is serialized and they come in dynamically matched sets.  Normally "flow matched" means the first column, the constant power injector open flow.  ID goes further and tests flow rate at 3-10msec injection pulses and puts them in sets that are match within 3% total error....but something is wrong with mine, debris of some kind most likely in the injectors that can't be cleaned out and they no long sell this particular injector so they can't replace the problem injectors...but luckily that meant no charger for the testing which was REALLY nice of them.

Fwiw I don't ever remember the original id1000s coming in 3% spreads. I had some sets cleaned and tested and 5% sounds about right on a set of 6. You can still get them, they are a bosch injector.

Interesting!  I never got data on these when they were new and don't recall seeing a % match spec/claim back then only a claim that they were dynamically matched so I was just going be what ID is saying now.

I know I could buy a replacement.....no idea if it would be better or worse than what I already have though right?  I'm thinking these work and at least I know what these are doing even if they can't swap out the couple low ones.

Just realized I bought the wrong size bolts yesterday so instead of 1/2  what I need I have none...mcmaster will bring the right ones Tuesday making getting the suspension back on a race against the injectors returning.

It wasn't a total lose though, I went a different way than normal and spotted this sitting looking lonely and unloved.....I'm trying to be strong and not go knock on their door.....

My teenager who really wants a motorcycle says it's too old.....its south of Morgantown PA, I'm not going to post exactly where but will share if you ping me. It looksvlike they probably pulled it out of the collapsing shed and no idea if it's for sale or a reasonable price

Nice!  What part of the world are you in?  I think this is the one last one I knew existed but had no idea where it might be living.  I think I have a pic or 2 of that car being built, I'll look when I get home.

Video of it running?

Feel free to ping me

New front A-arm mounts for 42% antidive, check.  Stock is +20mm, the new are -5mm, that sets the lower A-arm at 6.4deg.  Because the spindle is toward the read of the A-arm, the change only lowered the axle line 5mm.

I started be making a little jig, I didn't have wide enough stock, so I pulled out the mig welder and made it wide enough then cut a radius on the corner

The metal for the bracket gets tracked on

then heated and bent

then cut it off

Then to the mill for holes , shape it, and tack a bolt

and it fits

I do have a no ugly parts rule so I cleaned up the stock one

Sitting at the bench looking at the car sitting with a jack holding up the left front it struck me how flat the car was sitting...jack the right  just inside the rocket panel, both fronts are up off the ground. Nice.

Sorry your son doesn't deserve a bike if he passes on a 900 super sport. They are one of the best handling bikes I've ever ridden. Good thing it's on the wrong coast I'd take it in a heartbeat.

While I find the space frame iconic and raced against the 750 version so I know exactly how fast they are and would thoroughly enjoy having that motorcycle..... it is a decade older than he is and built about the time everyone else was switching to twin spar frames which is all he's ever seen on a sport bike.  I get it, and it is his money.  I read some where that men in there 40s-60s buy what they couldn't have in high school (the 308QV came out my senior year, hmmmmm) so car prices depreciate until its about 20 then start to turn up a little, sometimes a lot then often drop again once it gets to 40-50 years old and the people who remember it new are no longer shopping much.  I'm (plenty) old enough to remember that ducati new and kind of out of my spending league, while my son is in HS now and its for sure a Ducati he wants, but its a Panigale V4 and a 900 just ain't that....I get it but can't quite wrap my head around the idea of a 4 cylinder Ducati

I'm pretty sure that while trouble shooting my power steering issue I fried the new controller  off the replacement unit while hoping I could swap a new controller in and not need to pull the whole assembly sad

Looks like fix the PS is a winter project and I may do something different to try to make it more robust.  I found the CAN signals needed to make the prius units work correctly and they have a remotely mount controller so that is an option or just a more robust relocation setup for the fiesta unit I have (once I get another replacement)....either way, winter project.

My focus for now is just being ready for when the injectors return later this week.  Once its running I need to get the air box on...I'm remembering there was an issue with the fuel line in the way and I just removed to test fit the airbox and never corrected the issue.  But no air box, no hood, no inner fenders seems like a great way to get gravel in the engine so that is high on the list once the intake goes back on.
