While it is possible to license almost anything in Michigan, this is really only a Challenge car and maybe I'll hit some autocrosses with it afterwards. It would be kinda fun to cruise into the local Saturday morning "Cars and Coffee" and park it between the shiny Corvettes and Porsches though.

Warren, is it possible for you to run the C&D 'top ten course'(N Territorial @ Inverness Inn) for your maiden run without too much state trooper intervention?? Listen Boss at your age you're an inspiration to this 67 yr to get up....get out...... and get busy.!!!!!!.....THIS IS TRULY FIREFLY NONSENSE!!!!

I keep at this so that I can win the "Old Guy" trophy at the Challenge.

I could probably get from here to Inverness without the popo noticing me, do a quick lap of the loop and sprint back home......but if I got caught it wouldn't be fun.devil

If it's fast enough you shouldn't get caught.

I suspect there won't be much Corolla in your Corolla but I stumbled across an ad for someone parting a Corolla out, in case there's something you need.

I volunteer to be Designated Decoy! I have a spotless record and this would be a worthy reason to get a spot on it!  devil

No updates until it's warm enough for a 68 year old man to work in an unheated garage. Check back in April..........maybe.

That triangulation is spot on.  I see a lot of experts /shops make chassis's and miss the perfect triangle by 4-6"- you've just made the huffaker equivalent of a challenge car.

Nice f'n work!

I'll take the compliment, but if Joe Huffaker were to look at this car I imagine he'd see a few things that would make him cringe, or at least scratch his head.

Have you done much of this type of thing (chassis building) before?

No prior experience building a car....this is the first time. I've wrenched on my cars for decades, so I can change bolt-on parts or rebuild an engine, but this is the first time I've tried to fabricate a chassis or cage. I didn't bend any of the cage tubes, for example, I just recycled pieces of three different cages. This was built in my home garage with a chop saw, 110V Craftsman MIG welder and a collection of Harbor Freight angle grinders. The only "specialty tool" I bought was the chassis table/jig seen in one of the earlier photos (see page 3). I got that from Craigslist for $100 while I was searching for "steel tube".

Well Kendall, the roof is about a half inch from resting on the roll cage and the oil pan is 3.5" from the pavement, so that's about as low as it'll go. I did make a measurement error and ended up with the main hoop an inch taller than I intended. I really wanted it to be lower than the Miata, now it's a tie.
