Don't rush you?! Hell, im rushing ME!
Transferred pattern to sheet metal, trimmed, drilled, bent, and bolted in place.
gonna test fit this part on the other side to see if they're universal (as intended) before I start making that one.
You may ask why I'm fiddling around with stuff like this when I still need to plumb my fuel system and do a bunch of other important stuff. Simple answer is that I need to get this stuff in place before I overlay the wiring harness and run fuel lines.
So yeah, RH part fit LH no prob:
so I made another one from the same CAD. I'm glad to have them done.
then I moved on to fabbing mounts for passenger seat. Again, it's one of those things that has to be done before other stuff, ie building the shifter pedestal and center console air duct that will carry air from base of windshield to front of engine bay.
the C4 seat tracks don't match up with the Corvair mounting points, but the front inboard stud is just about perfect so I used that as a starting point. I connected the Corvair rear mounting points with an 18" length of 1" 14ga square tubing, which started life as 2 scavenged 12" lengths and some filler rod.
With that bolted in place, I measured and marked a couple short lengths of square tube that will attach the C4 seat tracks to the Corvair mount connector.
I will cut, mark, weld, and drill these the next time I'm in the garage, then I'll just have to modify the C4 front outboard track foot to pick up the Corvair bolt location, and that can be crossed off the list. In the pic below you can see both header heat shields and the passenger seat mounts about 50% done.

I get it, the pace in here is staggering, but try to keep up!

not sure if you've seen this, but the guy's work is amazing
yes indeed. His tool collection and his ability to use them far exceeds mine.

Meta trash talk!
Wait. How did I miss this? In the Post Challenge Firm thread on 14th Feb this was said.

We've got interest in 14 entries so far, a few more and we'll have a decent minimum with some wiggle room, then it'll be time to contact FIRM.
I'll be registering for the challenge in a couple weeks and can send a deposit for the FIRM event if necessary .

I'm going to hold those 3d printed emblems hostage until this is reality.

so you've hired yourself a driver?

Why would i need to? The neon is inherently better than most everything else. I figure a blind, inebriated narwhal could wheel one good enough to beat your car. You may be a better driver than me in the same car though.
fresh-water leak in upstairs bathroom last Tuesday caused some disruption recently, and (unrelated) the dishwasher installer said he couldn't install yesterday because gate valve under sink is frozen (what?!?! surely this must be the first frozen gate valve in the history of dishwasher installations!!!), so i've got to take care of that before i make it back to the garage. probably won't have any progress to report for a couple days. i'll buy all the plumbing goodies and pre-assemble so i only have to shut off house water for long enough to drain the pipes and install the new valves. shark bite products are in my future, for sure.
Lit the propane heater at 7:45 and hit the garage at 8:00 to work on seat mount. Cut, drilled, tacked with the flux core, finished with the TIG, and temporarily bolted in:
still need to extend the foot on front outer and I can move on to other tasks.
I love how the passenger seat mounting is a higher priority than this thing running.
For real.
It shows you want this car to be enjoyed post challenge. I admire that.
I am finding out that a swap and fab in a racecar is drastically different than doing it in a car you want to enjoy on the road.
