I built this bike mostly to prove to some people it can be done. I will use this bike to bomb around town and my local trails, do some tricks and maybe even as a backup/loaner polo bike. the frame is a 1992 Trek 970 it is one of the last made in the USA steel lugged MTB. I have two front disc 27.5(650b) wheels, in the rear I converted to solid axle and I bolted a 20tooth cog that I made where the disc brake rotor would go, yes this bike is a fixed gear. since the bike has vertical dropouts I tensioned the chain with the use of a 32tooth chainring(its called a ghostcog). the front fork is from a 24inch kids bike, I did that to get the front as low as possible for a very high head tube angle. this bike is a blast to ride!

The pictures aren't working for me. Looks like you have to be logged into a Microsoft account to view them.

Yes, fix please. I need inspiration for a single speed urban commuter build.

Never heard that chain tension idea, very cool!

Great Klunker, can I ask what is a "steel lugged" frame

I love it!

May I make one silly suggestion though? IMO you just have to do a "Potts mod" on that stem. That brake line is breaking my heart. The 80's BMX kid that still lives in me says it could be more "sano"

When I made the custom stem for my goofball townie project I drilled the bolt for a Potts and love it

It is like it was designed to work with disc brakes

Very cool! While none of my bikes really resemble yours, I'd say "urban assault" pretty much describes my riding no matter the bike.

YEA! I did that mod to my main polo bike but I never knew it was called the "potts mod" reason I didnt do it to this bike because Im running a hydraulic brake(its what i had on the shelf) I need to get a mechanical disc brake and riser bars so i can do bar spins!

yes it fully floats, you place the chainring in the chain before putting the wheel in the drop outs. it only works if your chainline is perfect and it helps if your gears are close to the "magic ratio" of your bike. if you notice in the last pic I still needed a half-link in the chain.
