No, it wont get better.

glad glad it is done. Not a fun way to go about it, but an effective way.

Took two whole cans and half a third. But, core support to taillights is a nice even coat of satin black.

Now i can get to reassembley.

I'm glad you stuck with the original color. I've always been fond of it.

In reply to JeremyJ :

Honestly,  the original color is the only reason this car got saved. It's part of my obsession with it.

Correct me if I am wrong but weren't 1st gen neons painted with water based paint or some such nonsense because it was more environmentally friendly?  I seem to remember the paint would come off in big sheets after a few years exposing the primer underneath.

This I clearly going to be the nicest neon around since you are doing it up right!

I think it was water based. Not certain about chemical composition. I am certain it was utter rubbish though.

And yeah, I'm probably way too anal to be a real neon guy....

The other day I was trying to explain GRM to a customer.  I said yeah there's even one guy that's restoring a neon but we accept that.  So you're my crazy GRM guy story.

BECAUSE people on the forum do things like this is why I stuck around.

But the forum is rather accepting of all our mechanical mayhem.

In reply to 759NRNG (Forum Partidario) :

Yes. I forsee this car being a gateway drug for many to neon ownership. Or not. Regardless,  you can have a ride!

Why do parts cars always have a mostly full gas tank of unknown gas? Is that a rule of the universe that i missed learning? Don't even want to use it in the mower....

I refuse to use it in the mower because it is way to old. But I have found that it is an effective parts washer. I used the 3 gallons of varnish left in the MR2 tank to soak and clean all the suspension parts.

Car is looking great, I love that color too!

Thanks!

And if i knew how old (like less than a year) id put it in the mower. Or mox it with fresh in the truck. But, no odometer and no clue equals no way.

Im not sure if it will work as a weed killer based on smell.

Nah. This mower is good. Bought it new 21 hours of use ago.

However,  there's ant hills.....

I had a friend that poured about a quart of gas into an ant hill and lit it on fire. He said it took half a day to finish burning and meanwhile had ants crawl out adjacent to the fire and try to fly away only yo burn up mid flight.

I'm not sure if this is encouragement or discouragement.

Im not sure either. But, sounds like a good way to spend an evening! Kinda like nuclear firefly....

I did this with yellow jackets last year. Poured in the hole, lit it, and let's just say it went up QUICK.

You could see the fire through the ground. It appears yellow jackets nest in old root systems underground.

Parts washer idea is a good one. Diesel is for burning subterranean critters out of their homes.

the tank cleaned up super nice. Only about a gallon left in it, and smelled relatively fresh so i dumped it in the truck.

See fire through the ground? This sounds AWESOME. Now I need to find a yellow jacket nest.

That gas tank really does look good.  Did you just have to give it a pressure wash or did you paint?

Purple power and Scrub pad on the aluminum,  and purple power and rag on the plastic. Just amazing how it cleaned up.

Hopefully finish getting the r/t ripped apart today, and get the line set from it cleaned and put in the blue car. I need the space back....
