I think everyone was pretty much in a agreement so no need to comment.

Well, the big part of the build is coming up now. The heads were the hurdle that was keeping the entire engine rebuild from happening. My machinist is ready to do the rest of the build. I'll end up doing assembly when we get there. He wants to slap it on his dyno though, so I'm excited about that when it's done.

Don't have a truck, so I tossed it in the back of my 924 Turbo. Who says a 924 can't be practical?

Now I just need to finish up the wiring I was doing and toss the interior back together. Progress.

Big hatchbacks rock! The Motovan is available when you need to pick up the assembled engine.

Been a while since I've updated.

  • Block and heads all cleaned up.
  • Valves are on order from Manley Performance. Should be here next week. YUSSSSSSSS.
  • Pistons being sent of to JE for R&D.
  • Borla Induction should have my estimate back today for ITBs, fuel pump, rails, etc.
  • Working more on the wiring harness. Pics to come soon.

This is what it looked like before.

What I cannot make my mind up on is what engine management I want to go with. I'm already familiar with Megasquirt. So part of me wants to just order an MS3 assembled unit. The other part of me wants to do AEM Infinity 8H or something like that.

Part of me thinks, "Well gee... I already have tuner studio and I know how it works. Parts make more sense. I already know how to hook it up and I already know the struggle."

The other part of me goes, "Yeah but AEM has such amazing support. You haven't used it before. And I dunno what the support will be like with MS. Wait.. yes I do... and AEM makes more sense in this aspect."

I'm really really torn on whether to megasquirt the Jalpa, or go with AEM. Opinions for those that have used both and can offer some comparing insight?

I like the AEM stuff, really like MOTEC, but honestly it comes down to what your actual tuner likes to use. If there are shops around that use a specific brand that you like and work with its normally the best course of action.

I've worked with an AEM Infinity; support and issues we had with it sucked.

We wasted two days on an engine dyno ($$$$$) because AEM forgot to mention that we had to download an updated driver or some BS. Seriously. Thousands of dollars wasted. They weren't terribly helpful through the process. Once we got past the issue, everything was fine. Certainly left a bad taste though. Don't get me wrong - it is a great ECU. Just don't think you're signing on for world class service.

The MS3 does most everything it can do anyway - if you're already familiar with it, I'd say go the way you know.

If you know the MS... I'd say go with it... after all this isn't a Rabbit, or a Corolla... it would suck to damage the engine because you were learning the management system.....

A good friend of mine is running whatever predates the infinity in his 2J swapped MK3 Supra and I'm not impressed with the customer service through AEM at all. The ECU had an injector driver melt down and it nearly killed the engine. After loads of troubleshooting, lost time, and money spent AEM was kind enough to offer a penance of a discount to have the ECU rebuilt. He ended up paying them to rebuild it because he was already mostly tuned, had built a custom harness, and had swapped over all the sensors on the engine. All told the defective ecu cost him about a grand and 6 months. Go with megasquirt.

I third megasquirt just on the possibility you may have the only lamborghini running on megasquirt. And the obvious that you presumably know it well.

Madscientistmatt here on GRM is with Megasquirt and I bet he would be excited to help with a Lamborghini running on Megasquirt. I can't promise it but it seems like it would be a welcome project.

Twist my arm guys. All valid points. I think I'll go with an MS3. The feedback so far towards MS has been overwhelming.

That would be really cool.

My current experience with megasquirt has been my Alpha-N setup on my little porsche 924. It's been a great setup (though I really need to move to megasquirt 2, i'm using an MS1 v2.2 on that car) but either way, really like megasquirt.

Does he have a bat signal I can summon him with?

Pretty sure the bat signal is somewhere on the diyautotune.com website since that's where MadScientistMatt is from.

You know, I've seen that book on DIY autotune, or linked there. I haven't picked it up yet. Seems like it's worth a read.

Today was absolutely EPIC. I've been a member of Lambopower since the inception of the forum, back before I ever even bought my Jalpa, since I've wanted one forever. I've been in touch with quite a few members. But up till today only met one other member (who happened to live near me).

I've been in contact with one of the members there via phone for some time. The only other Jalpa owner in the pacific northwest that I'm aware of. He has wanted to come see my car and hang out and talk Lambos for over a year now.

Well, today, he finally came over..... with his Jalpa! He was excited to see one looks like gutted and was excited to compare the differences between years. We had a blast. Went up to smith rock state park, and another friend joined me with his 993.

He's an absolute class act, and a hell of an enthusiast to drive down all the way from washington to little central oregon just to see another Jalpa.

Enjoying some morning tea when suddenly the growl of an unmistakable italian v8 shows up at my house, accompanied by a 993.

My car creepin' in the background.

That ass though.

We go to smith rock state park for a cruise, when suddenly... the car stalls and won't start because it's running too rich.  I get out, directing traffic while the car clears and Chris can start his car again.  In the words of my buddy josh in his 993.... "Nothing is more classic of an italian car moment than this right here."

Lunch at "The Depot" (an old train station turned into a badass restaurant).

Me and Chris doing a crappy selfie.

Also... new valves are at the machinist from Manley. The guides are a perfect fit.

I also might have ordered a Megasquirt 3... and a trigger wheel, and hall sensor, and a harness from DIYautotune.
