Hey Everyone! Recently I bought what has to be the cheapest running (Kinda) 1g DSM and while I plan to restore it back to its 90's glory a good friend of mine suggested to run it in the GRM budget challenge so here we are! I'm going to do my best to stay diligent and document what I can here but I'll also be doing stuff on my youtube channel so while this isn't a plug...I guess it is? I'll link some of the videos of the car here shortly.
So, without further adieu, here's the car after sitting 9ish years in a shed then 6 months outside
Dat 4g63t tho....
Luckily it just needed a little water, oil, air in the tires and a battery and I drove it up onto the trailer
Took it through a coin wash to get 10-ish years of grime off it
Though its hard to tell from this picture the interior needs some love, time and humidity haven't been good to the plastic interior dash bits
Here's video of the day I went to get it, skip to about 2:00 for all the DSM goodness
Feel free to subscribe!
Here's a walk around video of the car. If it sounds like I don't 100% know what I'm talking about...well it's because I'm only at like 70% on a good day
Uhmmmm uhhh....a video
So as it stands I have $1,718 to get this thing ready for 2018. This should be fun!
Bonus! Headlights work!

Loved these then and wouldn't mind having one now.... Great start!
In reply to 759NRNG:
They're great cars, I had a 92 N/A car in high school but this one is soooo much cooler lol. Not sure why the pictures aren't working? I'll try and fix them soon

Not long after these came out I seem to recall that some Noob actually had his dodge version(awd also) doing high 8's at 159-161 in the 1/4....boo ya!!!!
In reply to 759NRNG:
If you're not worried about reliability these things are capable of insane quarter mile times, just look up 1g dsm launch on YouTube and you'll see some stupid fast quarters. Also stuff breaking lol

Ladies and gents, the co driver for vanilla rice
JEEEZ...Flip up headlights, automagic shoulder belts, a notable lack of nannie systems, and a turbo...I LOVED THE 90s!
In reply to 4cylndrfury:
The 90's were seriously the best, that's where the project gets it's name from.... Vanilla Rice! Get it? Geeeet it? Ok, I'll see myself out now
So, the original seller said it was a head gasket but I couldn't check for coolant in the oil because, well it wouldn't hold water. So out comes the radiator!
(ENHANCE!)
Well, I'm no rocket scientist but... I think this might be my problem
Sweet!! Another DSM build. I have a build thread for my $200 DSM but Photobucket ruined that thread. I'm starting a new build thread soon for my recently acquired $500 DSM. It's a 1998 GS-T Spyder.
Looking forward to this. There's a slim chance I'll be there in $2018.
Love these. A somewhat ratty but still decent looking 2G GSX went for $1600 on BAT a few weeks ago, which reminded me how much I wanted one when I was in high school.
The first gen wedge is so cool though.
If you are new to these cars start here:
The VFAQ DSM bible
Check the transfer case seals closely. Do a timing belt immediately. If you want to delete the balance shafts to not have to worry about that belt crapping out, you can use factory turbo Mirage 4g61t parts.
Other than that, Evo 8/9 560cc injectors, 3g maf, fuel pump,O2 dump pipe (notice I didn't even say full exhaust),boost controller and a Eprom chip and you are knocking on 12s for a few hundred bucks as long as the clutch holds.
Have fun.
This is so '90s! Spray bomb it yellow and name it Pikachu.
gives me inspiration to fix my DSM haha! Keep it up
Love these Cars! What a great find. We hope to see you at the challenge

That website is awesome, when I told a few people I had bought this car that was the first website they sent me to! Thanks for the advice!

Thats the goal! I have a few questions though, this car came with a lot of mid-2000s mods (SAFC set up, front and rear strut tower braces and a few other things) even though all of this came with the car do I have to account for it in the budget? I'm just curious so I don't drive all that way and get kicked out for that sort of thing.
If it was on the car when you bought it then it was included in the purchase price. Just document it with good pictures and notes.
Sounds like a valid reason to post more pictures of the car! I'm doing some maintenance on the wanna be race truck (Run GMC...the puns will not stop, I promise) and then I'm going to do some deep interior cleaning on the car, it'll be the perfect time to document!
If you find that you need a new motor there is another GRM'r in Sarasota with two on his shelves.

Thats the sign of a true DSM owner, spare engines! Name?
Kurt. He's rarely on the boards but I told him about your thread/build. He is running a 4g in his spitfire. He'll be at the Challenge this year.
I sure miss my 91 gsx. It had those exact wheels which are stupid heavy. I think you should easily make challenge budget with it!
