So this won't be a traditional "build thread" so to speak. More of a log of my ownership experience and the things I do to and with the car. For bigger projects I will get somewhat in depth, smaller stuff with just be a short explanation.

thanks
i wasn't sure how i would feel about the shifter but it's very well-placed
Repairs
This will be a log of any repairs done during my ownership. I'll consider a repair being any replacement of a failed part, even if it is a "wear item". (Brakes, tires etc.)

5/1/15 - 137, XXX - Installed Polk DB651s speakers
5/1/15 - 13, XXX - Relocated Cruise Control Switch
One of the first things I did was to replace the bulbs in the cruise control switch. There is one red bulb for the switch illumination and a green one that comes on when cruise control is on. The green one was out and I elected to replace them both.
This is a "How-to" I did for a few forums.
Got a Cruise Control switch that doesn't light up? Whether it is the red/amber CRUISE or the green indicator light this DIY will help.
First, the part numbers.
Green:
Amber/Red:
OK, here's what we're looking at.
Step One: Reach in between the steering column and the dash and pop out the plug to the right of the power mirror switch. There is Styrofoam behind it. If you wiggle it side to side while pushing out it should pop loose.
Step Two: Push the Styrofoam back a little, not hard. You should be able to reach your middle finger in through that opening and push out the plug to the right of the Cruise Control switch. The two blank plugs are the same.
Step Three: Reach in through the second opening and pop out the Cruise Control switch. Pull it out a little and push the tab on the connector to unplug it. Be careful the harness doesn't pull back into the dash.
Step Four: The two brown round things on the side of the switch are the bulbs. The red/amber is the bottom one and the green one is on top. Turn the bulb(s) approximately 1/4 turn counter-clockwise to loosen them and tap the switch against the palm of your hand to make them fall out. Put the new bulb(s) in place and turn them 1/4 turn clockwise to seat them.
Step Five: Plug the switch in without putting it back in the dash and verify bulb operation.
Step Six: If everything works put the switch and the two plugs back in place. All done!
Note: This procedure should be essentially the same for the Mirror switch, though I didn't try it.
Any questions let me know.
Add me to the list of people who will be following along. These cars are perpetually on my list though they haven't made it to the top for whatever reason. Count me among those that love the shifter.
it really is a great car. not "fast" but peppy and tossable. 32+ MPG is nice for a commuter that's still fun. plus there's not millions of them everywhere
Nice car. I'm still sad I missed out on a $3k one of these that ran but needed some unmodifying.
Extremely jealous of the 32+ mpg. These take regular gas I assume?
I wasnt really looking when I bought this. It was a customers car and he wanted something bigger. I asked for a price and it was a done deal
87 octane, yes

My '04 used to get about 37.5 mpgs when stock with high tire psi. Currently at about 32 now mostly due to fat tires with low psi, tweaked ecu (Hondata), and a heavier pedal. Still pretty decent but a high 6th gear, which will fit, would be terrific. It's a great car, have fun.
132,370 Replaced Left Outer Tie Rod, Aligned
LOTR had a miniscule amount of play in it. Wouldn't have failed an inspection but it wouldn't have gotten better. Had some time at work so I replaced it and lined it up.

At 33 or 34 mpg you're pretty spot on for a conscientiously driven EP. I was hypermiling and running at least 50 psi, which gave me 37.5 to 40+ depending. I haven't heard of higher mpgs with an EP so the numbers were extraordinary. -400 lbs. helped around town, too. A heavy peddle with a K20a3 will suck it down. Shifting around 2500 rpm really helps if you can tolerate it. I'm pretty happy with 32 for now and hope to someday have a K24 frank and a high 6th gear for 40+ mpg with street tires. Will this be your dd?
132,600 - Installed WeatherTech rear cargo mat. It was a semi universal design, trim to fit. Nice heavy material with reliefs for trimming. Got a nice fit out of it and it's well-made.
Will add a picture.
I've always liked this gen. A friend of mine had one briefly many years ago and it felt plenty fast to me (I've always had slow-but-fun-to-drive cars).
People seem to diss it a lot for its lack of horsepower and handling... I guess they aren't familiar with the shear awesomeness that is the Honda aftermarket.
