Shed/cabins like these, pre built and delivered on site are popular around here.

Have you considered starting with something similar and then repurposing when larger accommodations are done?

Yeah I've watched a lot of videos on the shed houses.  It would require a permit though.  Besides the "RV" not needing a permit it's moveable which I might do during construction.

EDIT - Also technically I have to build to 1400 IIRC due to convents and restrictions.  I want to build the SFH and the shop at the same time/permit because I don't want to build the SFH and then they say I can't build a shop that big.  Lots of little things.

I don't think I can make it down in time. I'm tied up for the next 3 out of 5 weekends.  I will make it down sometime this winter if you are still going to the garden of eden!

You probably don't need to go to KW to see Stampie naked. I bet if you ask nicely he'd strip for you in the batcave at StampieLand... laugh

Ask wvumtnbkr. He is the one that said "I will make it down sometime this winter if you are still going to the garden of eden!"

I was just suggesting his trip might be made a little shorter...

Dunno if this is anything you'd want right now, but I saw an ad today for  "Used white 50-gallon closed head polyethylene barrels.  $25 each or two for $45."  I have several around here to catch/store rain.  I have noticed that whatever place you see some being sold doesn't have any the next time you look.  Let me know if you're interested.

I can get them regularly here in Jax but right now I have two 275 gallon totes waiting on me to get roofs done.  Final build will have 3000 gallons plus of storage.

I thought about you when reading about the Southwest pilot who bought a former SW food service scissor truck and converted it to a tiny home. And he is ex-AF too. Pretty cool story!

Since my Jags kicked some Saint behind last night and I needed to meet up with a_flordia_man tomorrow I came to the property early. Got in around 5:30 this evening. The neighbors  greeted me when I turned around at the cul-de-sac.

This guy and some of his friends hitched a ride in the trailer so I guess they're relocating to Gainesville now.

Trent made unloading the trailer real easy. I'm parking it at the street tonight because it can't get thru the ditch.

I put the hotspot up and going to crack a beer in a few to enjoy the evening.

Jealous of the bees

In reply to Norma66-Brent :

No bees yet. I'm going to set up swarm traps for the spring. Hopefully that'll work because I've been seeing a lot of honey bees around. I have enough to make four complete hives. Lil Stampie surprised me when he saw all the hives. He thought it was cool. Several years ago when I helped a friend do their hives he wanted nothing to do with it.

I didn't know about swarm traps, so I went looking.  Are you going to build your own?  While I was searching, I found this: https://www.horizontalhive.com/how-to-build/bee-bed-sleep-hive-plans.shtml   Intriguing; you can sleep with your bees.  Pretty girl is not included.

Horizontal hive has free plans for building everything beekeeping.    https://www.horizontalhive.com/how-to-build/hive-frame-swarm-trap.shtml#layens-7-bait-hive

In reply to Asas_Dad :

There's a lot of cheap and diy swarm traps but seems most experienced bee keepers just use regular hives. Nothing extra to buy or build, no transferring comb to the final hive. Just plain and simple. Seems swarms prefer the equivalent of 10 frames of space. Some say just put a few frames in the hives so that the bees and see the extra space and some say just fill it with frames.

I went to bed last night early because the hotspot battery died on me. That made it the priority for today until I froze again last night.  That made insulating the cabin the priority for today. So what did I do?  Upgraded the solar system with another panel and a new controller.

I have one left over panel that I'll use with the old controller to put a basic system into the new enclosed trailer.

After lunch I put 50 lbs of concrete into a bucket and started making a tower for hotspot v3.0. I initially made it 30 feet and it was real sketchy putting it vertical but the bucket wouldn't hold it up. I ended up at 20 feet and using v2.x brackets to hold it in place. Right now I'm using my normal phone going thru it to post this. The hotspot will run my tablet for now just to test things out.

Connected on all bands.

I think tomorrow will be insulation. I already cleared out a lot of the stuff I had in the cabin as it shouldn't rain this week.

What is your siding going to be?

I'm not sure I am seeing this right, but it looks like you hung a door slab directly to the framing with no jamb or threshold.

The outswing door needs to be proud of the wall far enough to accommodate the casing and siding. If it's not, it won't open when the siding goes on.

It's also a little challenging to flash the top of the door well to keep rain from getting in without a jamb and casing.

I could be wrong or mistaken, but I believe Stampie hung the door as a quick and dirty, 'I'm gonna come back and redo this later, but it's cold as hell and I need a door now' sort of fashion.

I know that the door framing isn't "correct" but it'll do

That was 13 days ago. Hmmm.

I was going to leave it at that and ignore SVreX as I usually do.  My stalker (not SV reX, someone else) recently brought up me picking on people that don't agree with me. Me wanting nothing to do with SV reX isn't because of that.

A few years ago SV reX and I had a conversation in private where I told him that his black and white and gray areas were so out of line with mine that I had no need for him in my life. No need to go into the details unless SV reX wishes to. A normal adult would say ok and have nothing to do with me. SV reX can't help himself because he's a know it all. If you don't believe me just ask him or don't ask him because he'll still tell you.

So now you guys know why I ignore SV reX unless he's really pushing and then I'm usually an shiny happy person in my response.

Going to eat lunch then I'll give the morning update.
