So, like most people on here, I generally do searches for vehicles. The dumber the search the better.
This morning I performed one such search. I found a "deal" pop up a couple hundred miles away. Hey, its Texas, just an afternoon's drive here. This is just a chassis, but has an engine/trans in it with the rear axle. Looks like brakes are on the thing too.
I won't say what it is yet, I want to either actually have it in the trailer or learn its a complete dumpster fire and run away. I will give some hints.
2 seater
Convertible
Pre-emissions
Should have the better update tomorrow eve, or if the kids in the car are too much, Sunday Morning.
Both, incorrect
But would love the Kaiser
Based on some targeted CL searches to find OP's car, I found a few good options. Oddly, all four are sold by the same person.
Karmann Ghia
Porsche 914
1969 Triumph TR6
1974 Triumph TR6
The 1974 looks to be the best at doing actual car things while the Karmann Ghia looks to be the worst. Therefore, I predict it's the Karmann that he's going to look at :) But none of these are truly weird. Dumb in the financial sense, sure, but not dumb in the weird sense.
I know what it is. I've seen a picture.
Live update, we are traveling

Long trip and that picture looks like a lot of Nyquil to me.
Yes, we left the sleepy gummies, but overall been good.
no correct guess yet. I don't know that I can make it fit $2??? Challenge. May be tough to do....or maybe not..... I need to see.
As an FYI, a Shelby Cobra chassis will go into a 7x12 trailer without the body.

Oh mother of god that is glorious..
Wow that's a deal you don't see everyday
Give us the wheelbase so we can start suggesting production bodies to drape over it.
Initial measurement is 90 inches so it matches the factory stuff. I need to double check everything but it's a Mustang two front suspension with the Jaguar rear suspension has a 302 it looks like a C4 or AOD behind it.
I can see a cut up anti Miata with like 3 inch body gaps left to right. Wheelbase should be about right.
Dammit

Is there a RoW equivalent of the Mustang two front suspension?
I want to see it running and driving as a bare chassis. Autocross would be fun.

Do you like uncompetitive Amod cars, because that's how we get uncompetitive Amod cars
We like them so much locally that we created a regional class just for this sort of thing. We call it ZF
Hey, my first goal on this is to make a running driveable chassis.
I have never seen a Jaguar rear suspension up close, and now I own one. It is interesting. I have no illusion that this would be an amazing handling car. I think it will be a fun driver and decent handler at the least.

With the right spring rates and alignment what you have should handle quite well. It is worlds better than a 289 (real) Cobra.
