Hi everyone. I wanted to share another of my projects with you guys and girls. I have always wanted a focus coupe. ( I know ford built one in like 08 but it was never available in an svt trim package.) I started taking measurements one day and decided it would work. after a few years I decided to give it a try and these are the results this far.
I started by drilling all the spot welds and pulling the side panel from the svt hatch. then removed the inner pillars and rocker assembly as one complete unit

I took the sedan focus I bought from the junkyard and started cutting away the un needed parts to make way for the new ones from the svt

I then took the parts from the svt hatch and reversed the process, they fell into place beautifully.

Totally not what I expected. I thought you had cut the two in half and grafted them together side-side.
Where did you even get the idea?
I had an svt and always thought a dark charcoal svt coupe would look good with a set of black chrome fr500s. never saw it anywhere so I decided if ford wasn't gonna build it right then I would
No video of when you sawzalled the windshield? Aw man. I can't believe it didn't shatter! Anyway, cool project.
well I wasn't afraid of that as the windshield is laminated. check out the build called evil twin
This is pretty nifty. Looks like you put a lot of thought into the swap.
I didn't expect someone would like the sedan models that much. I can't wait to see it when it's done.
I have to admit that I have bad ideas in my head now of an El Focusamino.
its gonna be awesome when its done
When I had my SVT I always wanted a two door coupe. I love it when people make things that aren't supposed to exist.
hey check out the build titled "the evil twin" its another one of mine
is it bad if I put in a turbo ls

im so confused, so you wanted the coupe and not the hatch, wouldnt it have been easier to just swap components from an SVT onto a coupe?
well ford never made a coupe that I could put my svt stuff into. yes it would have been tons easier

This is a different platform?
yes those are two completely different platforms, the headlights and bumpers. plus why would I want something that any one in the world could do

oh okay i understand now. Looking forward to seeing the 1st one completed
While it wouldn't be an SVT, one could presumably swap a 2.5L Duratec into one of those for a different take on a fast Focus coupe.

I still don't see how sawing off the rear of a car and welding it back on is less labor intensive than just putting an SVT motor in an existing coupe, even if you had to do some custom motor mounts and stuff.
I are confused still.

Well the 08s and up do look like ass, so if the body components forward of the windshield don't swap, I'd see why someone would do it.
I say someone, cause not me, I'm way too lazy and that looks way above my paygrade.
When your welding two cars together how do you verify every thing is true and straight?

ok let me see if I can explain it a little better. first off I get that a lot people saying that I just cut the rear off of one and welded another one on. if you look at the build thread pics its extremely easy to see that's not the case. secondly, the coupes were not built on the same platform, I wanted the front bumper, side skirts rear bumper ect swapped. none of that I would be able to do if I had used one of the newer coupes. the sedans were built on the same platforms as the hatches that's why I did this. I wanted something that no one had ever done I just get so tired of the same old bolt on mods or simple engine swaps. the build titled "the evil twin" is another one of my examples of wanting something no one else has. sometimes I really wish my mind worked in the fashion that I could build something simple but it doesn't.
So what are you going to do about interior trim panels? Is the quarter glass going to work in that opening? Is the SVT rear bumper going to work on that car? Whats the endgame for something like this? Daily driver? Show car?
I guess also when I see projects like this I always wonder if they actually get finished before the creator gets ADD and moves on to something else. Ever finished a project like this before? I think I'm getting old, I would have thought this much cooler about 10 years ago, carry on.
This. Is. AWESOME.
Dude i wish i had half the skills you do.
the trim panles we made of the two different cars then covered by factory style fabric. also the rear bumper will be grafted from the two cars rear bumpers. the plans are to drive it as a nice street car. Ive got a few projects going on with the ambition to finish them all. my adhd is what allows me to build more than one and actually finish them. go look at "the evil twin" its another one that no one understands and figures they could do better and easier
I always think about doing a 2.3l or 2.5l swap into one of the 2 door coupes. I would never think of what you are doing because you are doing the impossible. I approve and cannot wait to see the finished product.
I get your point about the nose of the car, if you did this to a newer coupe it would be a newer coupe, the nose of the SVT is much different. I would compare you platforms to a A1 GTI vs an A2 GTI, similar underneath but totally different skins.
Me, I don't hate the newer coupes, but if you did a full SVT swap to a newer coupe you would have to swap a ton of wiring, linkages and brakes. In a way you are choosing the devil you know...
