Sorry I missed this. I do have the 472 Caddy motor. The problem is I have iirc $868 in it. We looked at using it for a Challenge Ranger build but when we did the mock budget on it we were at $1950 without turning a wrench. I think Pinto Beans can be built cheaper but we'll be better off getting a donor vehicle. For example I think I can get any vehicle on that auction list for $500 or less. Zero out Pinto Bean and the donor and we have bunches of room. There is that 79 Cadillac at the auction. A 425 with just tuning should make 250hp with gobs of torque. Throw a 200 shot of nitrous on it and you have a very interesting ~2000 lb car. I'm not sure I want to go the GM route. A big part of this build is getting outside my comfort zone.
Take a look at the 4 speed that's in it. If it's a T-4 (the four speed predecessor of the five speed T-5) it isn't really worth anything. But if it's something else, the bellhousing pattern matches the ubiquitous 'Ford 4 cylinder' bellhousing from the Kent/Xflow/CVH/Split port/Zetec and if it looks like this:
Its worth something to Lotus 7/Locost people or putting a 2.3T Lima in a Jeep.
The Locost people would want the box too. The Type 9 from a Merkur bolts to the bell if you want a 5 speed option.
*EDIT looking at the photos, that's the Type E that should give you that bell and that will take a XR4Ti's 5 speed. Toss in a Zetec SVT and have a lightweight cheap 170 hp.

The Type E box (also known as a Ford of Germany (FOG) Rocket gear box) has a lots a parts available.
Ive spent the last 4 years trying to buy a factory turbo pinto complete with fiberglass front clip. So at some point they did make it too the US but i still think you would be better off with the 2.3 lima that currently dominates mini stock in this area or a small block ford.
Today is auction day. Got my eyes on a few. So far the 71 Dodge was described by the staff as a POS. They haven't let us inspect vehicles yet but that Dodge is in an area that they normally only give you a minute to look over before they auction it. I'll update one I get looking and maybe use the new picture posting thingy.
79 Cadillac still has cork in the crank hole so the engine hasn't had any work done. Oil dirty as hell but no metal.
Sweet talked them into letting me look at the Dodge and the E350 van. Dodge truly is a POS but it looks like a 318 so no go. I think the E350 might have a 460 but need to Google image a little as I'm not good at Ford ID yet.
Pretty sure the E350 has a 460. But look what I found in the Cadillac. Factory service manuals. So easy $50 in recoup plus that means the PO cared about the car.
I'm ignorant of what "cork in the crank hole" is?
Sounds slightly dirty. Or a way to order eggs in a diner.

The Cadillac 500,472,425,368 got a piece of cork put into the hole in the middle of the crank pully from the factory. Since it never gets replaced (except by people like me) it's a sign an engine has never been opened up if it's still present. Can be good because you don't have to worry about prior workmanship but also bad as that means I mostly likely have the factory nylon coated timing gears.
Trying to keep up with the budget as we go
Pinto Bean $300
10 hole wheels $50
1979 Cadillac $440
Cadillac parts stash $125
Total: $915
Recoup:
Nada
Budget exempt:
4 SM7s $13.32
Title and taxes on Cadillac $106.25
Forgot to add the Cadillac parts stash. Back in October of 16 we bought a stash from a guy getting out of Cadillac for the Ranger build that never happened. Here's a list of things it included:
Late low compression rwd Cadillac 500 in parts.
Two early high compression heads.
One late low compression head.
Set of headers for an air boat
Two Holly carbs.
Two flexplates.
Receipt for above because it was hard to find.
When by the PO of the Cadillac and got the keys. Nice guy. Says it has a brand new Edelbrock carb on it. Might have starter/flexplate issues.
77-79 Cadillacs were some of the best made by the brand. I had a 79 Sedan, that I bought from my Dad, granted he maintained it, but for as long as I owned, never did anything to it.
In reply to Dirtydog :
This is the newest Cadillac that I've owned. My first was a 70 convertible, then a 67 convertible, 70 Sedan DeVille, another 70 Sedan DeVille, and my 60 Flattop.
In reply to Stampie :
I've had my share too. The 79 Sedan, 99 Sedan (Another DadMobile), 03 CTS, and 05 Sedan. The 79 and the 05 were my favorites.

Hey Pete. How's the Suburban panning out?
Not bad at all. I was talking to a_florida_man today about a possible leaky windshield, and I think I'm going to need a ps pump soon, but I got 11.1 MPG in town at the last fill-up.
Good for you. Power steering is kinda nice in one of those. 11.1 isn't bad, you should be happy with 15 or so on the highway.
Today we picked up the Cadillac. Carol and I started this morning but couldn't get a good enough charge on the battery. So since Pimpm3 was so nice to meet us borrow his trailer we went back in the evening with the whole team.
Pretty uneventful. Took it over to Carol's house and dropped it.
And then we got pizza and all was good.
Early in the morning we're heading to get Pinto Bean.
You'll need to log in to post.
