Lodging consists of a tent until Georgia. Lack of hotels isn't an issue. Decent camping spots, maybe.
well into CO now. Taco Bell for lunch. Next stop, denver

Past Denver a while ago. Just switched to the passenger seat until Kansas.
The car is flawless. Temp and oil pressure readings are rock steady. Keeping around 70mph we're doing better than 30mpg!
Not sure I like Colorado. The roads are pretty bad. The climb over Veil Pass is serious business. 40mph in the floor in third, serious. This car made 88hp 40 years ago. It makes less now, especially at 10,603'. Were about 1.5 hours from the Kansas line. Hoping it's warmer there. Camping and all.
Burlington, CO. Stopped for fuel. Wind is blowing and it's not warm out. Dad isn't thrilled with camping. There's a hotel next door. We'll see what happens.
Pic from earlier in the pass.
Friggin snow. Colorado can keep it.
My system is rock solid due to years of conditioning. Seems like my friends, however, are more.......sensitive, thus my comment. Lol, carry on!
Kansas welcome centers are the best I've experienced. Or, at least they have picnic areas that can double as impromptu campgrounds. Which is handy.
Dad slept in the car, claimed it would be warmer. I tried setting up the tent but the wind was making it impossible, so I gave up and simply cocooned myself in my sleeping bag, a blanket around that, all wrapped in a wind resistant tarp under the stars. Stayed nice and warm.
We're not usually early risers, so two days in a row being up before dawn is different. Onward I guess. To breakfast anyway.
Last nights accommodations:
Also, if you keep the Mustang why not put the Chevy running gear in that at least until you can make the Bird legal? Cant imagine the Mustang value changes much between 4cyl driver and roller.
Ahahahaha, thank God I wasn't the only one.
Had to show it to swmbo who figured out the thing in the lower right is his NOSE.
It's just a nose. Everybody has one. And my VERY dry forearm.
Stopped in Hays KS for gas. Gas is cheap here.
Half an hour ish to Topeka. Cruising right along.
Burned a quart yesterday. 750 miles or so. And we're getting surprising fuel economy.
Must be a Prius.
In other news, I'm going to start posting numbers, first person to figure out what they mean gets a coke.

Staged some parts in the shop, sounds like we might start wrenching tomorrow afternoon!

Into Missouri now. Aiming to get close to St Luis before stopping. Trying to avoid stopping in any big cities. Probably one more fuel/food stop tonight.
Just thought of something funny. We're cruising between 70-75. I'll be lucky to hit 70 in the 1/4. How often does one drive faster to a race than in the race?

Warrenton MO. We wimped out and paid the man for beds and a roof. Super 8 style. I'll still be in my sleeping bag, for reasons. Shower is gonna be nice. Who knew I could get so smelly sitting on my duff in a car for 9 hours.
Mustang averaging 34mpg since we got out of the Rockies.
