Hi all, Our project is a 1988 T3/T25/Vanagon which we are re-building for Time Attack racing. Main purpose of the car is to use it as a track day funmobile:) but it is built to meet the FIA safety regulations. Our goal is to get it ready for next season, which means, it has to be ready for car show held in eastern. First version of the car was built in 2007-2008 and driven around Finnish tracks till 2011. After 5 engine failures, we decided to take a little break with this one and focused racing with our 2 Locosts and endurance VW type 1.

Main focus will be handling so we are getting rid off all stock Vanagon suspension parts. For new version of suspension we will use mostly Porsche parts and some custom made adaptors etc. Idea is to use factory parts when ever possible. Rear is completele unit from Porsche 951 with factory geometry, just installed higher than in Porsche. Front uses Porsche 964 or 993 hubs with Bilstein shocks and 993 style custom made lower control arms. We can also use original 993 arms but custom ones will have racing rose joints in them intead of the rubber bushings.

Engine is Subaru ej20 Sti RA version, in which we are trying to find reasonable priced dry sump pump (just let us know if you have info). It seems that it is impossible to get these to last without dry sump.

Gearboxes are custom made VW094 units with either ZF LSD or Syncro 100% unit.

How are you going to get the CG low enough to prevent rollover?

Most of the weight is at lower parts of the van. Roof will be made out of CF and all the windows are PC except the windscreen which is custom made motorsport version made out of laminated glass (10kg's lighter than original). New suspension will lower the CG compared to our earlier set up with VW T3 original type of suspension. Porsche 996/997 Cup front suspension will correct the geometry issues that we had with lowered original suspension. Rear is also as per stock Porsche 951 but with more adjustability and rigid mounting.

Not sure if its the cold long dark nights, the proximity to the north magnetic pole or an excess of Hembränt, but for some reason the Scandinavian Nations produce the most hard-core build projects. It would seem that everybody in Finland has a warm garage, a full machine shop and all the car parts and funds to pull these amazing projects off. Oh..and lets not forget the skills. Serious skills.

Love the project. Glad I wont be in the backseat!

Thats a t3 karman chia build for Urhonajot 6hour endurance racing series (which we started 13 years ago). Urhonajot is for aircooled vw's and porsches (with T1 orT4 vw engines) only. Yep, we have so little daylight in winter (6 hours at the moment), that we have good time for our idiotic projects :-) No machine shop here, just lots of good friends who help each others. Everything is so expensive in Finland, that we need to do everything ourselves.

Have you guys found anything online for making the VW handle better without going full crazy.

I have a manx that I would like to build up and use and could use some tips.

Yes we few ideas how to make it better. Is your Manx with balljoint or linkpin front axle? IRS or Swing rear? I used to race with 1956 Oval bug. Started with old style front and swing axle. Final version was with highly modified balljoin front, 951 porsche rear, 2990cc fuel injected T4 engine, porsche gearbox, i kind of lost it:-)

IRS rear no front on the car yet. 2110cc motor, bus transmission with longer 4th. ~1300lb's wet when done is the plan.

Hi all, Its been A while We seem to have too many projects going on to get this one done. Anyways, Vanagons tube frame is now complete and it seems to be middle engined and no more Subaru powered. Gearbox is A ZF unit with Porsche/Vag origins. Engine started as A 1.8t but its under going a transformation to around 2.0 with the help of Kit Car billet stroker crank, con Rods and custom pistons. Aim is to get the HP level above 600. We weighted the "car" with all the parts that will be when its finished , and weight was 990kg. carbon parts are not ready yet, so we should be able to keep the weight under 1000kg when done. At the moment we are working on a bodykit. There will be box flares with matching side skirts.
