Everyone needs to learn that a car is something earned, and they don't just grow on trees.  Yes, I cringed writing that.  I don't care if he works on cars. I hope he can afford to pay someone to do it when he is older, but I don't think that will happen if he keeps thinking that there is no sacrifice of time or effort or money involved with getting things like nice trucks and that it is a HUGE responsibility.   My parents wrote a check every ti.e I wrecked, got a ticket or otherwise made poor decisions based subconsciously on the feeling that whatever happens, moms check book will fix it and it cost me dearly in life, while on the other end of the spectrum the high dollar racing bicycle I bought with my own hard earned cash in 1987 is still mint, and hanging on my office wall.

I have arthritis in my hands and 7 disc's in my back bulging or herniated and he won't help me with his truck?  Yeah nah

I read him some of the comments from this thread and it seemed to result in significant thought on his part.  The truck is only advertised here, news at 11

As a "former" child (I'm still pretty young and learning how to adult) sometimes it takes an alternative means to get a point across.

My very first total loss crash resulted in the loss of a car that I loved dearly and bought with my own money, and I had to buy a car "on loan" from the bank of mom. It was incredibly embarassing knowing I was driving a car that wasn't really mine.
I rarely drove the "new to me" car spiritedly, and I never autocrossed it, because I knew it wasn't really my car. Taught me a good lesson to stop being stupid.

Anyways, hopefully he turns around and figures it out before you sell the truck.

He is a good kid, and the forum is doing a fine job explaining to him how easy he has it.

"He was paying rent at 14?!?!"

"He paid for his own insurance to BORROW HIS MOMS VAN?!?!?!"

"80 PERCENT?"

The look on his face was hilarious.

Oh, and he has 200 bucks in his room he wasn't telling me about that he fessed up to when he saw the for sale ad.  I can't stand dishonesty

Thank you everyone for your advice.  I've asked for this thread to be deleted.

I have not sold it, but he will have to work for me or someone else if he wants to drive it.  I may rent it to him for when he wants to use I for other than school and see if that helps

I made a comment in the report thread.

I reckon this thread has more value staying around, than just deleting it... it's also a little bit of the ethos here (imho).  I do, though, understand not wanting to keep up with it.  And I can understand deleting it too.  But, it might be worthwhile to come back to in a couple years?

Thus, I'm going to lock it for now, and hear what you say over there (or PM).
