That was one of the most impressive Challenge cars we've had compete. It actually caused us to re-think, and change the rules a bit.

It's an amazing machine--- whomever gets it will have one fun toy!

A cross between wanting it and wondering how AFR heads were under the budget.

This is why the rules were changed. Iirc they were able to sell down so far they were in the negative and bought a lot of trick stuff.

Yeah, that car caused a lot of controversy. I was there that year and we were all wondering the same thing. That's all I'm going to say about that.

Interesting.

No worries, I don't begrudge the team for finding good ways to legally get the stuff under budget with the rules at the time. I am curious from an academic perspective but perhaps I'd better let this one lie.

AFR heads were added in last three years... the Nitrous was removed. Car was set up to to be enjoyed and driven on road and track. It's a blast to drive... considering offers or trades.

Great car. I know it up close.

They beat the budget because there was no recoup rule at that time. The recoup limit was created because of them.

Will a hardtop fit over that bar?

Cool, that makes sense. That probably makes for a better track car (switching from nitrous to great heads) and certainly a better street car.

I am not in the market, but good luck with the sale!

Hardtop will fit over it and one is available (not matching color but in good condition and easily painted to match) for $800 (not sold separately.)

Probable stupid question, but I gotta ask, since I can't pass the "broomstick test" in most Miatas (or TR7 / Lotus / BMW Z-series):

Height from seat cushion to top of roll bar?

Sitting in this office chair, I get a rough measurement of 38" from backside to assumed top of non-existent Bell Sport 5.

39 1/2 inches from back of seat bottom to top of roll bar. New Kirkey seat is bolted to floor. You could move it forward and tilt back for more...I am 6"4" and 268 ...
