I was just asked if I had any interest in this car. Guy is about to scrap it! I don’t have any interest but looks too good to let it be scrapped. If anyone is interested I can try to put you in contact. Car is located in Wayne County Ohio.

Auto or manual? Title? I may be interested.
Also, how bad is the rust? I see some bits going on up top but the floors/rockers/subframe can be a deal breaker.
Stamping actually called me first. So I’m giving him “dibs”. Not that they are mine to give. But I’m tracking down the contact info for him.

I will sell/trade all the things for an opportunity at a genuine Unsafe at Any Speed swingaxle 'Vair.
I used to live in Fairview Park, Ohio, when I went to high school. Between high school and my afterschool job at the Schwinn shop, was a very tiny repair shop, and for the life of me I cannot remember the guy's name, but he worked on Corvairs and ONLY on Corvairs. At any given time there were three or four Corvairs in various states in his little section of the parking lot that he shared with a convenience store and some other business. Jim something-or-other. I saw a Greenbrier pickup there once that looked like it fell out of a time warp.
An aside, the guy was friends with the dad of the guys who ran the trans shop across the street from where I worked a decade or so later, and his daily driver, possibly only car, was a Chevy LUV in immaculate condition. This is a serious accomplishment here because most of those died of rust before I was born and I was born in 1978.
Name bubbled up. Jim Battenhouse.

If Patrick can't store it I can probably convince swmbo to let me store it here. Who doesn'td want a corvair to stare at for a while.

I know (knew?) the Schwinn Shop, but don’t remember the Corvair place!
Battenhouse was just up the street, on the northeast side of the corner of 220th and Lorain. The building couldn't have been much larger than a Fotomat.
I worked at the Schwinn shop between '94 and '96. Worked for Joe Dutko (Jr) and his business partner Dean Brondos, and his dad (Joe Sr) was retired but still hung out around the place all the time. A while after I left there, Joe sold out to Dean and moved to Florida or someplace. Last I heard (which was a long while back...) Dean was running the place with his son.
If you're in Ridgeville and a car guy, you probably heard of Weber Racing Equipment... I worked there and the then-sister company for 15 years. I still drive past WRE when I go to the Batcave just across the border in Olmsted Township. Funny, when I started working at Fairview Cycle, it was a year after Joe Jr. bought the company from his dad. When I started working for Weber. it was a year after Bryan bought it from his dad....
Anyway, I want a Corvair in the worst way. although I'd probably hate actually driving it, but dammit it's SO WEIRD IT HAS TO BE COOL
Sofa King said:Yep. I know Brian. Just sold him a Torsen Miata diff about 2 months ago.
Ha! He was telling me about the Miata he bought his kid for an absolute steal of a price. And he confided that he was probably going to enjoy it himself before he'd let a 16 year old drive it

You can keep it here if I can work on it. The one Corvair I have driven (a 61 4 door) was actually pretty nice to drive from what I remember. I would be really tempted by this but I'm trying to get cars running instead of adding more projects.

Nevr invite a vampire into your home...
I have never driven a Corvair but I have driven an old Tempest a bunch, it's like a Corvair except it has half a 389 in the front of the car, which is somehow less weird
I have a '64 Convertible 4 speed. It is indeed way more fun to drive than a 110 horsepower car that is supposedly out to murder me ought to be.

Mine's a 63 vert but otherwise everything said above. They don't do anything well, not fast, doesn't handle, but its just plain fun to drive.
I believe I'm going to pass. If we were heading out to OH to visit the fam anytime soon I'd drag it back, but not worth it to me to make a special trip...or pay for shipping on a non-op.
I called the people today. They're a bed and breakfast and I guess they're storing it for an elderly friend. Anyway she told me it needs floors and has been sitting a long time but comes with a spare engine. They're asking $500 but she made clear that she would listen to reasonable offers. I'm going to pass because the logistics don't make sense. She said to pass her information on. Their number is 330-317-0265. She said she'd try to send me some more pictures and I'll post those if so.

Thanks for following up with them. Sorry it didn’t work for you. Hope someone else here gets it!
