If the Maverick was an euro Ford product only, we would fawn over them, but they're just the forgotten sibling of the star of FoMoCo  family here in the states.

I think they have great lines, especially the small bumpers

RossD:

Ford did sell a Maverick in Europe, however it was quite different from the North America version in that it was a 4wd/somewhat off road vehicle.  If I remember correctly (and I don't always), it was a "twin" of a small Nissan offroader that also was never sold in North America.  Think 2nd generation Pathfinder....but about the size of a RAV4.

Had a friend with one back in high school. I distinctly remember the coolest thing about it was lifting the piece of plywood up from the rear floorboard & watching the road pass by underneath since the original metal had long since rusted away.

And that's why you don't see then anymore. And when you do they look like the car listed for sale here.  I always though they were cool cars. Any mechanical parts that fit a Mustang would fit a Maverick. A friend had an early production model with the small bumpers. He had a hopped up 302 in it and it surprised a few muscle cars.

My dad has told me about the time he had a Maverick (or was it the Mercury Comet version?) and did a ridiculous minute-long burnout with it. His brother was in the passenger seat and he thought the clutch went because the car didn't move forward at all, but it was all tire smoke.
