Been back and forth over the past few months, but have decided to sell the '89 MR2 I bought from a member about a year ago ... things have come up in my life and I simply don't have time for it. I haven't really ever really driven it other than on my street, barely getting to 3rd gear. Always has started and come up to temp when I start it in the driveway - not shown any issues with cooling, pretty much been rock steady at the 8th tickmark. Is Texas titled in my name but never been inspected or registered.
What needs to be done with it:
1. De-rust & protect bottom of trunk
2. De-rust & Protect bottom of frunk and underneath frunk (worst area)
3. A/C system not working
4. Battery tray rework (deacidify & rebuild) and positive battery cable end needs replacement from damage.
5. Passenger pop-up headlight doesn't work (currently have it adjusted up and fuse removed to keep driver's side up)
6. Rear running side marker lights need sockets put into the housing (lights work but for some reason are hanging down in the trunk & not inserted into the housing - haven't ever gone into depth to find out why.
7. Driver's window switch is worn out, window is stuck down.
8. Motor could use a rebuild, over 163k miles on it and leaks a bit of oil and smokes a bit of blue.
9. Really needs new tires, the RE-11s on it are 7+ years old
What I've done with it:
1. Removed all carpeting to check for rust (there are few areas in the trunks because of the carpet)
2. Replaced worn out windshield wiper knob with reproduction MK1b unit from Twos R Us.
2. Replaced the non-working interior light with new OEM toyota one (is beige instead of blue)
3. Refurbished the shifter assembly - cleaned/steel wool'd and quick painted/clearcoated/waxed the bracket/retainer, replaced the ball seat with new OEM one & molygreased, added aftermarket short shift adapter, and bushings for the bracket/retainer changed to aluminum aftermarket ones.
4. Just fitted a MOMO Supercup and with T3 seat bracket for drivers side this past Thursday
5. Took off driver side door panel as was about to start conversion to manual windows on Friday before I ended up thinking hard and coming to the realization of all that I wanted to do and not really have the time for... was not going to be a quick get it on the road like I was thinking.
What it comes with:
- All stock parts except the floorboard carpet; and had Koni Sport adjustable dampers with Eibach Pro-kit springs, MR-S wheels with RE-11 tires, stainless brake hoses, and MOMO steering wheel & adapter already installed when I got it.
- Factory '89 MR2 Service manual & owners manual
- Hawker Odyssey PC925L Battery plus Odyssey OBC-6A Battery charger/tender
- used manual window regulators and new crank handles necessary for conversion over to manual windup windows for both driver and passenger side (driver's side was a difficult thing to source...)
- Reproduction interior mirror trim for L & R mirrors
- Chico Raceworks PTFE shifter bushing kit & Shift linkage roller bearing from Twos R Us
- T3 aluminum racing door panels with red pull strap kit (requires conversion to manual windup windows or creative custom fabbing/modding if you want to stay powered windows)
- T3 driver's side seat mounting bracket (will need fixing/shimming for a final proper install)
- new MOMO Supercup seat (standard #1071BLK)
- extremely heavy weighted BLOX knob which originally came with it (currently installed is a lightweight Torque Solution Delrin teardrop knob I much prefer)
