Been back and forth over the past few months, but have decided to sell the '89 MR2 I bought from a member about a year ago ... things have come up in my life and I simply don't have time for it. I haven't really ever really driven it other than on my street, barely getting to 3rd gear. Always has started and come up to temp when I start it in the driveway - not shown any issues with cooling, pretty much been rock steady at the 8th tickmark. Is Texas titled in my name but never been inspected or registered.

What needs to be done with it:
1. De-rust & protect bottom of trunk
2. De-rust & Protect bottom of frunk and underneath frunk (worst area)
3. A/C system not working
4. Battery tray rework (deacidify & rebuild) and positive battery cable end needs replacement from damage.
5. Passenger pop-up headlight doesn't work (currently have it adjusted up and fuse removed to keep driver's side up)
6. Rear running side marker lights need sockets put into the housing (lights work but for some reason are hanging down in the trunk & not inserted into the housing - haven't ever gone into depth to find out why.
7. Driver's window switch is worn out, window is stuck down.
8. Motor could use a rebuild, over 163k miles on it and leaks a bit of oil and smokes a bit of blue.
9. Really needs new tires, the RE-11s on it are 7+ years old

What I've done with it:
1. Removed all carpeting to check for rust (there are few areas in the trunks because of the carpet)
2. Replaced worn out windshield wiper knob with reproduction MK1b unit from Twos R Us.
2. Replaced the non-working interior light with new OEM toyota one (is beige instead of blue)
3. Refurbished the shifter assembly - cleaned/steel wool'd and quick painted/clearcoated/waxed the bracket/retainer, replaced the ball seat with new OEM one & molygreased, added aftermarket short shift adapter, and bushings for the  bracket/retainer changed to aluminum aftermarket ones.
4. Just fitted a MOMO Supercup and with T3 seat bracket for drivers side this past Thursday
5. Took off driver side door panel as was about to start conversion to manual windows on Friday before I ended up thinking hard and coming to the realization of all that I wanted to do and not really have the time for... was not going to be a quick get it on the road like I was thinking.

What it comes with:
- All stock parts except the floorboard carpet; and had Koni Sport adjustable dampers with Eibach Pro-kit springs, MR-S wheels with RE-11 tires, stainless brake hoses, and MOMO steering wheel & adapter already installed when I got it.
- Factory '89 MR2 Service manual & owners manual
- Hawker Odyssey PC925L Battery plus Odyssey OBC-6A Battery charger/tender
- used manual window regulators and new crank handles necessary for conversion over to manual windup windows for both driver and passenger side (driver's side was a difficult thing to source...)
- Reproduction interior mirror trim for L & R mirrors
- Chico Raceworks PTFE shifter bushing kit & Shift linkage roller bearing from Twos R Us
- T3 aluminum racing door panels with red pull strap kit (requires conversion to manual windup windows or creative custom fabbing/modding if you want to stay powered windows)
- T3 driver's side seat mounting bracket (will need fixing/shimming for a final proper install)
- new MOMO Supercup seat (standard #1071BLK)
- extremely heavy weighted BLOX knob which originally came with it (currently installed is a lightweight Torque Solution Delrin teardrop knob I much prefer)
- Two OEM Toyota 90915-YZZF1 oil filters
- Fel-Pro VS 50268 R valve cover gaskets & ES 72133 valve cover grommet set
- distributor seal repair kit (12311973) from Twos R Us
- new positive battery cable end
- Gates Hoses for redoing cooling system:
A) Upper - Cap To Eng. #21551 [#42611551]
B) Upper - Eng. To Pipe #21542 [#42611542]

Optional extras:
- new Racequip 96663369 seat [+$300]
- Quickjack BL-5000SLX specifically bought for the MR2,  absolutely perfect fit to the chassis and used only a handful of times [+$500]

Asking $3,000

My build thread I made when first got it has pictures of it:

Great price for someone, even needing some work. Asking prices have skyrocketed in the northeast in the 6 years since I sold my JDM GZE swapped '87. Good luck with the sale, the car looks pretty clean.

Mind sending me the VIN?

You said the motor has ~165k on it...I assume the chassis/odo are the same?

In reply to calteg :

Sent you VIN# in PM/message. EDIT : Forgot I have major issues with the Personal messaging system on this site - checked my email and got undeliverable, return to sender. Sent VIN info and picture of title to the email listec in the undeliverable message.

I believe it's original motor to the car and original mileage on ODO/chassis. Maintenance work was done @ 145k miles water pump and timing belt (I believe, would need to double check)  and previous owner had new fuel pump installed by a specialized MR2 shop.

Reducing price down to $2500... will not reduce it further. If doesn't sell will simply leave it with the house will be selling.

Damn, if this were closer to Ohio I'd have a 4th car.  Have you listed it anywhere else?  I was looking at cars from April till late June and MR2s (cars in general) were pretty up there in $.  My 200 mile radius search here would have found this listed at $4000 or more, and getting that.

So literally $2500 with the quick jacks too ($3000) per the original post (if I'm reading it correctly)?  I'm in Dallas and have a truck that can tow.

And if so can we do a receipt for both separately (1750 + 1250)? And would it offend your sensibilities if this car did rallycross in the future?  I routinely get razzed about keeping my current rallycross car so clean.

Yes, MR2 + quickjack setup = $3k

However you want to break up price I'd be up for...can let you know what Texas valued the car at when I purchased it (will need to look at the paperwork when I get home). What ever you do with car would not be any of my concern, rallycross would be fun with it I imagine - I remember seeing that Group B or whatever prototype AW11 turbo rally build... looked sweet. E-mail me @ vincentcarguy@yahoo.com if interested.

Edit: The 222D AWD rally MR2 prototype...

No, have not listed it anywhere else... figured would try here first since I got it from here. Keeping it in the family so to speak... LOL

Was thinking about listing/posting about it on the MR2 reddit forum. Will hold off on that if either AnthonyGS or Mazdax605 go with it.

Talked to the boss.  She is fine whatever I decide to do.  I'm going to check with the hive about the viability of this car for rallycross, the challenge and then greater things on the other side.  I've never driven a MR2, so opinions would be helpful.  I'd likely unload my Subaru if this will rallycross well (and it ought to).    Check for an e mail from g mail, by the way.

I've never really driven it either... but there are some fine videos of AW11's in action...

Stock motor on the Nurburgring...

Some rallycrossing...

Something a little different...

The wheels on the one in the last video are just stunning.  I'm sure they unobtainable and unaffordable these days.
