A neighbor's one owner '77 Cutlass with 28K miles on it was almost my first car in high school. Unfortunately it still had the original oil in Oldsmobile 350, and I wanted to swap an SBC in it.
That interior, though.
Dude. That's beautiful. A twin to my first car, minus the 455 swap. I got a lot of mileage out of those seats, front and rear.
My wife had a 77 Cutlass with the Rocket 350 4v. Now THAT was a good car, but she wanted to sell when babies started coming along.
That is not a bad deal if it isn't hiding rust. Clean Cutlasses around here that haven't been hooptied are rare.
He shoulda included a pic of the engine.
If you’re going to throw a 455 in there, why not use the one that ran. The Buick!
But I would have found a Caddy.
Mom had a 76 Electra 225 that she put into a ditch swerving to miss a deer. It bent the frame, but she was still able to drive it home. A friend of a friend bought it & swapped th 455 into his Cutlass just like this.
I got yelled at once for calling a 455 a big block, Oldsmobile doesn't make a big block. 455s are more like a tall deck block, as a 351 is to a 302. Not at all like a BBC to a SBC.
One fella called the 455 a wide block, which is more fitting.

That is something good to know.
Jailhouse Rock was on the factory 8-track demo tape. I know because my mom and her friend kept playing it over and over again one August day in 1977. The day I learned who this Elvis guy was they kept talking about. I was 7.
You have to make an effort to repeat a song on 8 track.
Useless trivia time.
What do the '76/'77 Cutlass and the Mazda Miata have in common beyond both being autombilies?
