Somebody can get there today, I will send them the money via paypal, Venmo, whatever.  This is precisely what I'm looking for.  I will even toss another $100 in for your time and effort. I would then do a fly and drive. Let me know if anybody can go and snag this for me. I will get you the money now.

Geez, you're in Atlanta!  What we up north consider to be the hot-spot of plentiful rust free cars.  My advice to you continues to be stop trying to buy cars north of the Mason-Dixon.  Hell, even if you have to pay more, it's still a deal if that paying more gets you rust free.

John, you'd be surprised that the Atlanta market is not quite what everybody thinks. I sort through it everyday. There's lots of junk and scammers on it, but truly good finds are few and far between. When they are there, they are snapped up amazingly fast. If you don't get on it within the hour, it's gone. I have much more success on less populated areas in the country.  I've always had automotive ADD, but it used to be much more pragmatic. I'm certainly not wealthy, but I'm finally at the point in my life where I can pursue cars that are more whimsical to me. This one just happened to be pragmatic since I have twins that just turned 16. The seller never responded.

I guess it is a "grass is greener" type thing.  I see your grass as very green.  I just want to be sure that you see my metal as rusty.

I'm reminded of my F-I-L's Chevy S10.  Upon F-I-L's passing, his son wanted the truck.  The son had lived in Pittsburgh for years (and northern all his life) and the most recent 10 years in Huntsville, AL.  He took this Northern Ohio truck to Huntsville.

By Northern standards this S-10 was a clean, low mile, old man truck.
Just cutting to the meat of the story as it was years ago but B-I-L took the truck to a shop in Huntsville and the shop flat out refused to work on the truck due to what they perceived as an extreme amount of rust.

Has anyone heard from the seller?  I have not inquired to the seller.  I am amazed than banks have been open for an hour and a half and the car is still listed.

What are your answers to these questions?
Should tea be sweetened?
Should cornbread contain sugar?

Tea should always be sweet but not sickenly sweet like McDonalds.

Cornbread should not contain sugar and must be cooked in a preheated cast iron pan.

To those of you already north of The Mason-Dixon... (and only you.)

I will be putting a Prius up for sale soon. 2004 w/160k probably need $3,500 for it.  Very nice car.

Another comment for those of us residing in "Union States"...These Prius rust very little.  (That's very little by northern standards.)  Like, if compared to a similar Corolla of the vintage, the Prius is notably "cleaner".  Toyota charged a significant amount of dollars more for a new Gen2 Prius vs the same year Corolla.  I have no proof but I really feel they used a better metal on these cars.  They have no issues of subframe rust-through like some other economy cars.  They do not have magically disappearing rear wheel well like Honda and Mazda of the era.  No disappearing rockers like Ford Focus of the era.

I'd be interested. Currently living in Northern Kentucky.

When are you thinking of putting it up for sale?

When you say Northern KY are we talking at least near The Cincinnati Airport?  You know, the whole line thing...

What are your answers to these questions?

Should cornbread contain sugar?

Haha.

I'm currently in a Hotel in Florence KY looking to move out this way from Utah for work(Though I may end up in Utah still)

Either way, I want to get a "beater" Prius for commuting somepoint soon. Don't know much about them, but seems a lot of you guys do... might be asking for help when the time comes. I want to spend around $5-6k max I think.

Here's a link to the unofficial GRMer Gen2 Prius Buyers guide

If you find something local to you, feel free to send me the listing and I'll tell you what I see.  I've done the same for many others.

We called it the Mason-Dayton line. People start saying "Y'all" south of that.

I also learned here on GRM that it's the line where you stop using Loctite and start using anti-cease.

The white 2010 above is the first year of Gen3.  These have a 1.8L gas and Gen2 have a 1.5L gas.

The 1.8L are common for oil consumption and HGs.  As such, replacement 1.8L engines are not cheap.  Screen shots from car-part.com just minutes ago.

396k asking $1,845
89k asking $3,784

High demand equals high price.

Now we go to car-part for a 1.5L

$300, $400, $800

Low demand equals low price.  Ive seen engines near 100k miles asking just $300.  But, no one ever really needs a used 1.5L because they never go bad.

The gen4 Prius engine is almost a direct swap into the gen3 and can be had a little cheaper. There are several step by step guides out there now. The gen3 issues were supposedly fixed with the gen4 engine.

I now see that the ad is gone.  Did it go to anyone we know?

Very interesting about Gen4 engine into Gen3.  Though Gen3s are everywhere and though they seem to be a nicer car than Gen2, I have heard it said that Gen3 is the ones to skip.  That is either stay in Gen2's or advance to Gen4's.

John,  This one is close to you.  At $500 the high voltage battery and cat are worth more than that.  Who knows, it might be worth putting back together.

I'm still waiting for someone to try and Gen2 Camry-Hybrid swap a Gen3 Prius.  I reckon it'll probably be a while, though... especially since it's probably cheaper to just buy a Gen5 Prius, rather than do the swap.
