I'm guessing Alaska and Hawaii buyers aren't eligible for the free delivery program.
1.6 liter diesel in a campervan. I have to think that it would lose a drag race with tectonic drift.
Remember, the journey is the destination Which is good, because you'd have a lot of journey time to reach any destination.
Just waiting for a 2.0 swap. Use the oil pum and pan as the engine sits on an angle. More hp and about the same mpg. That way you'll arrive the same year you left.
On my old Subaru wagon, I'd just floor the throttle when I got on the interstate. It would maintain an average speed of right around 75 that way. Climbing the mountain passes, I had to watch my mirrors for semis.
No need for an 85 mph speedo on that thing, and probably not on this VW either.

I think we had the same car! Mine was a 1985 with the extra pimp digital dash (such 80's) and a large complement of bumper stickers. So very very slow.

by appropriate do you mean aspirational?
In 93 one of my bands was on a mini tour of the PNW. Instead of taking the late 80's accord and jetta the singer and bass players drove we borrowed a diesel Westphalia poptop from a friend. I had the misfortune of being the driver through Portland. Imagine if you will, a 48hp van with almost 900lbs of people loaded down with with another 1000lbs of gear attempting to merge into 60mph traffic uphill on the wind gusting freeway bridges.
I have never been more scared. 0-60 must have been 2 minutes fully laden. Top speed was 63.
Also, back then diesel was a rarity at a gas station. One in ten stations had it at most. We were averaging 16mpg. Pre cellphone days. Missed one show sitting on the side of the road near Bellingham out of fuel.
Listening to that clatter for 8 days is probably why I hate the sound of a diesel to this day.

Only in the USA. In Europe, they came with all kinds of different gas and diesel engine options. Just an FYI.
