On one hand, it seems like they increased the reliability. But it still managed to break down. It seems overpriced but I applaud the concept.

I think this picture sums it up really nicely. I can't stop looking at it and giggling.

I so want to offer them $2000.  Brakes are free to budget.  Be the first EV and BiTurbo at the Challenge.

I like the idea, but this looks and sounds like it has a 20 mile range. Love the high capacity charger in the gas tank smiley Smartfortwo battery pack can't give it much range... He did say he drove it a few miles, perhap down to his friend's house and had to plug it in again?

The Smart fortwo with the lithium battery was 16.5 KWh. Let's say it uses 350 wh/m, which is plausible. That gives it a range of 47 miles. I'm going to say that odometer isn't going to start spinning much faster than it has for the last 36 years.

Be careful, you may end up owning it if you go around making offers like that.

18kW motor is 300Wh/min, which works out to 350Wh/mile if top speed is 51 mph. That may not to far off for 24 hp.

Clearly some old-school EV conversion there.  Not going to get anyone's blood pumping.

Would be neat to give it a new EV power-plant - tear apart a Leaf and put all the good stuff in.

No, it's a Biturbo. Put an Ecoboost V6 in it.

It'd be neat to see people's faces when you tell them you drive a one off all electric Maserati and then show up in... That lol

Didn't wheeler dealers do one of these as an EV?

Based on the ad - this may be that car.

Must have missed that one.  Really sounds like more of a Roadkill project.

Wheeler Dealers was a brighter red and they used a HPEVs motor.

If I wanted unreliable, I'd keep the Maserati powerplant.

Unreliable can be endearing, unreliable and parts availability frustration is just masochistic.

I have never found a broken car to be endearing. It's just broken.

I wonder if there's a motor that could be attached directly to the differential of the BiTurbo, eliminating the transmission and driveshaft.  May end up turning the car into a two seater only due to the size of the motor, but maybe not?  Getting rid of the trans and driveshaft seems like a good improvement to make.

It would be hard to pay much of a premium for this car as all of the conversion hardware as it sits should be replaced with much better components.

Actually that's how the recent Toyota 4Runners have hybrid drive systems- just a big ole' 3-phase AC motor tacked onto the pumpkin with a huge reduction gear.

This car sold (again?) last year for $2700.

And it's up for sale again for $5750 with the exact same pics as last year.
