The GRM RallyX Impreza (http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/project-cars/2000-subaru-impreza-wagon/) needs a new home. I bought it with the intention to try rallycross and maybe get back into autox. Just over a year later, it still hasn’t seen dirt in anger, so it’s time to go to a new owner that will more fully appreciate it. It’s a great handling car and a lot of fun, but it’s time for me to move on.
Since purchase, I replaced the steering rack boots, repaired the center console cover, replaced the hatch struts, and put in a new stereo head unit. It was in a minor fender bender that creased the right front fender. I pounded out the dent, smoothed it out with a little filler, and painted it with color matched paint.
In December, an idler pulley seized and threw the timing belt, bending 8 valves (http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/200x-classifieds/ex-grm-rallyx-impreza-looking-for-a-new-home-and-some-engine-tlc/96514/page1/). A reputable local Subaru shop handled the repair, replacing the valves. They said the engine looked great and should be good for another 100k. While the engine was out, they replaced the clutch, timing belt, water pump, power steering pump, and did a full idler kit. They also replaced the shift knuckle, so the shifter is nice and tight again.
The engine runs great and has given no problems until recently when the power steering pump developed a leak. It is going back into the shop on Friday to get fixed and the car will be delivered leak-free.
