NMNA. That is one big yacht.

I had to look, this is 219 inches long. 1974 Cadillac is 230. 1973 Imperial is the winner at 235, so over a foot longer. That's gotta be fun to park.
That's not the right car from the show. He drove a 4-door 1968 Mercury Brougham for the first six seasons, and then a 1974 Marquis for the rest. Both are well documented. There was a 2 door Mercury Marquis in the pilot, but it was a 67.
This is the actual car, supposedly.

You probably did. There were all kinds of 2dr cars on that show, some of them cop cars.
If you watch, every time he gets in or out of the car the tilt wheel is all the way up. Who drives like that?
Hoist the main sails!
My uncle had a later 1975 Marquis 4-door. I am pretty sure it had a 460 smog motor that probably made like 135hp. It was green inside and out with a vinyl top. I used to hate it as a kid because I couldn't see over the dashboard to look outside while riding in it. I'd rock it in a heartbeat now!
My best friend's dad got a new black Marquis every year as a company car. When we were 14 we had a key made on the sly and used to steal it from the underground parking every Friday night. We did that for over a year until we actually got our licenses and our own vehicles, at which time it was no longer any fun. We had a great time in that sled.
My uncle had one of these, they got, what, a 430? At a family picnic he tossed me the keys with "Yeah, check it out, go for a ride". Two younger brothers hopped in (I was in high school, fresh license). Got back and my brother Jack met me at the curb "You lit that thing up over there 'bout 1/2 mile away? I turned the music up, but everyone under 30 heard it!"
Quiet as the tomb inside for us. =~ )
