Actually all '90 325i/325is came with an airbag, and the 318i/is didn't get it until '91. I'm guessing someone swapped it out, possibly related to water damage to the control module. Which brings me to the second problem:

The ad said: The CarFax says that it was in an area where Katrina might have hit. There is no sign of water damage. It does have a little spot rust under the driver's door. The DMV made it mandatory to put this on all the titles of vehicles in the Gulfport/Biloxi/Ocean Springs area after that.

Not true. It's only on the title if it was an insurance claim, and usually only if it's considered totaled. Now that doesn't mean that the car is berkeleyed or anything. I've bought "flood cars" that only needed a starter and the carpet cleaned. I fixed one that was totaled in a couple hours and drove it for years. I don't think anyone should be scared of the flood title, especially since you've been driving it for a while without incident, but I also think I need to point out that that statement it totally untrue and misleading.

I'm not at all trying to E36 M3 in your wheaties. The car looks to be a good deal, and I'd be in the market for something like this if I didn't just pick up an E46, but there seemed to be some confusion here.

It's not an AirBag car. There are no lights, or any other info stating that in the VIN.

Regarding the title, I'm just going on what people have been telling me for a while. It never said it was flooded, just that it was in a zone that was declared flood.

Whoever wants it, come look at it.

Thanks for the input.

(quoting:)

FS: '90 E30 325i Sedan - Alpineweib (GA) $3900.00

This E30 was bought almost 2 years ago to serve as my Son's 1st car. We are the second owner's. It took about 6 months to get it to the condition we wanted. Son is getting his license in the next few months and Mom wants him to have a vehicle with an AirBag. I never thought I we were going to ever sell this car, and I took my time to get it to the condition that I trust it more than my MCoupe. I've DD'd it about 25 miles daily since the last few weeks.

History:

Originally a Mississippi car owned by a lady. She drove it until 1998 she was rear-ended. It was repaired perfectly, and then I guess they painted it Alpinewhite. (CarFax reported). Along with the receipts of the car was a receipt for about 3K that I didn't know why until I started to work on it. I pulled the valve cover and noticed it was as clean as NEW. The whole top-end was rebuilt. When we got it, in 2010, the odometer was inop and it stopped at 141,XXX. I started to daily drive it last winter in order to keep the miles off my MCoupe. I think it has about 5K miles more. I moved from Mississippi to Georgia this winter and have taken 2, 800-mile trips there since then. Right now, it sits at about 149K mils. It may be at about 30-40K more because I don't know when the odo stopped working.

The CarFax says that it was in an area where Katrina might have hit. There is no sign of water damage. It does have a little spot rust under the driver's door. The DMV made it mandatory to put this on all the titles of vehicles in the Gulfport/Biloxi/Ocean Springs area after that.

We've put a lot of sweat and bruises working on it as a father-son project and here's what we did within the last 2 years and 5K miles, (ALL NEW)

Mechanical: - New Radiator and all belts and hoses - Cap, plugs, and rotor - Timing Belt, Water Pump, Valve Cover Gasket - Brake Rotors, and Pads - Mustang Yellow Injectors, EBay chip, Mustang 5.0 o2 sensor - Guibo, Trans Mounts - Trans Fluid / Diff Fluid - New Rock Auto Gas Tank - New 255lph fuel pump - All filters, etc.. (I'm sure I forgot something)

Misc:

  • Perfect windshield
  • Perfect Dash
  • E36 318Ti Front Seats. (I have extra set of Sport Seats I'll throw in that need work)
  • No rips except a 1/2 inch one in the rear leather seats
  • All window switched work
  • Manual sunroof, no leaks. (Manual lever broke last week)
  • Pioneer CD/Mp3 player
  • Retrofitted Ellipsoids from IS.

What's needed in order to make it PERFECT: - Alpineweib Paint's clear is peeling in about 60% of the car. In some places it needs a full spray due to the Deplhin coming out. - Power Steering Pump leaks. (Yesterday, it started to feel hard to turn, may need it flushed and fluid replaced) - ABS light on. (I have about 4 extra ABS sensors I'll throw in along with the relay) - E36Ti Seats need to be re-dyed. They are PERFECT.. I have the Black Leather Dye I'll throw in. - Front Control Arm Bushings

Extras:

  • Racing Dynamic Springs
  • Bilstein Sports
  • Lifetime Rear Strut Mounts
  • OEM Front Strut Mounts
  • Rare OEM Rear Spoiler (Needs Better Glue)
  • Many replacement parts to include grills, switches, sensors, trim, Alternator, belts, Gaskets. (too much to list)

This car is tight. Starts tight up. Drives smooth. No rattles or noises. Would make a great daily or a dedicated track car with some minor work. Since the top end was rebuilt, I prefer the first option. My Son started to put a lot of stickers on it to support the troops that can be taken off.

Asking $3900.00 (OBO)

D-Force LTW's are not included. I'll throw another set of 15in wheels, and another set of bottlecaps.

Prefer Local sale.. Come look at it and drive it away.

Call / Text 678-571-Eight, Eight, Eight, Seven.

Please email me for additional pictures, and VIN if needed.

Call me reckless...call me irresponsible...but I turned my kid loose in a car that would stop and/or maneuver safely around most potential hazards.

(And my '90 ix had an airbag but that wasn't the car...)

Black Seats were when I first bought the car 2 years ago. The E36Ti seats were put in last summer. I have yet to dye them. I have the dye kit i'll throw in and a set of E30 Cabrio Seats in Blue that need refinishing.

What is the cars build date?
I suspect that the steering wheel has been swapped out for something sportier. A swap back should put you back in the airbag game (and keepable.)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbag said: On 11 July 1984, the U.S. government amended Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 (FMVSS 208) to require cars produced after 1 April 1989 to be equipped with a passive restraint for the driver. An airbag or a passive seat belt would meet the requirements of the standard. Airbag introduction was stimulated by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.[55] However, airbags were not mandatory on light trucks until 1997.

It was this ruling that either made driver's airbag or "snail-trail" style passive seatbelts mandatory.

I'll pull the build date later..

I removed the old bus-driver-type steering wheel when I bought it and put the Cabrio one on. The airbag was an option, I suspect. I believe I also have the original window sticker somewhere in my documents. I'll check. I do know that the LSD was an "optional" addition.

Here's the VIN Number.. WBAAD 1306LE D11899, I have nothing to hide. (Spaced the numbers to detract search results in Nigeria)

I know man... Thanks..

If there was SOME way to convince MOM that it's just the swap of a steering wheel, it would have been done and this ad removed. All along (2+ years), I have been dreading this time.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying that it had a branded title because it was in the area, and it doesn't work like that. Now I see from the carfax that it's actually a clean title, but carfax is just warning that it might have been in the area, because it was registered in Biloxi, MS during Katrina, which kind of seems like carfax overstepping their bounds a bit and potentially causing panic over nothing.

The airbag thing is weird though. It was built 6-89, so it should have had it unless it was a foreign market car (which it's not). Very, very odd.

Good luck with the sale! It's a very nice car!

Oh, I've got a '90 325i that's currently my wife's DD, and it's getting replaced with an E46 in a couple weeks. Anyway, the guy who's probably buying it will be turning it into a ChumpCar at the end of the year, and I'm sure he'd sell you the airbag system out of it cheap!
