I don't think it's a scam. Everyone seems very comfortable out there if not super rich so letting a problem vehicle go for peanuts is easily understood. Of course no way I'd pay that for it unless I really knew what the hell I was doing. Gotta be better than any Land/Range Rover you'd pick up out there.
Dunno, just a couple of codes? Sounds expensive. My neighbor's X5 is at the dealer more often than it's at home.
Being DC, this will end up at a buy here pay here lot before breaking down in the middle of rush hour traffic (preferably blocking a lane on a major street).

oh I don't doubt it. I'm just getting tired of being bullied by all the shiny happy person lawyers here in their Cute Utility Vehicles that I must have size envy in my Versa.
also there are always a handful of Masochists on this forum that tell you how easy it is to fix German cars yourself - not even mentioning Range Rovers, well okay maybe that last vehicle is a stretch even for the guys on here. 
Fixing a Range Rover is not hard, just think about it like a career. It's finding the time to work a real job on the side so you can afford parts that sucks.
