Here is a NA 5-speed 1981 Porsche 924... not in the greatest shape. 40 minutes northwest of Detroit.
$500*
My brother and I bought this 6 years ago as a project but it was, well, more of a project than we anticipated, and we just never got it rolling.
It drove when we got it. Took it around the block and I think it was not bad, but we realized:
1. brakes sort of didn't work and
2. it left a trail of oil on the driveway.
So we parked it and started working toward a rear main seal replacement.
It's run since then, but not for a couple years now. Tried to get it started this month, bought new battery and spark plugs. It'll turn over but not start; I don’t know what to look for, and I’m not sure I want to put the time in to figure it out.
I have a bunch of stuff in a box including 944 calipers, a timing belt, brake shoes, CV bolts, and main seal. Maybe more, I’ll dig through it.
- There is a switch in the glovebox the PO installed which I believe is for the starter, but I don’t remember. All I know is it should be switched on before starting and off once started.
- The main seal might be a problem but we never really found out. As far as I know, other than that the engine and trans are in good shape.
- Driver’s side shock mount has a stud broken off.
- Axles have been removed.
- Exhaust was sawed off for several reasons.
- Brake calipers were removed, one was rebuilt (a few years ago) and is on the car, the other is seized for sure.
- The body is pretty rough. Quite a few rust spots and paint cracks. There's a pretty significant rust hole in the passenger side rocker.
- There was some front end damage but front bumper shocks were replaced, although the radiator is… a bit squished.
- Missing the front spoiler, as it was damaged and quite rusty.
- No seals on rear glass or sunroof. The sunroof had been sealed with uhhh silicone and duct tape.
There is a nice zip-up cover for it though!
- Hatch struts are stuck open, and the latch or lock cylinder is finicky.
- Driver door latch gets stuck so the door is very difficult—might be impossible now—to open (not currently shut).
- Headlights go up and down, but drivers side is broken where it links to the body.
- Relatively nice cloth seats (more on those) which haven't been fastened down, since the original leather ones were trash.
- All the carpet and the rear seat have been removed.
- Dash is badly cracked; there's a cheap plastic cover on it.
*The seats are from a 931; I bought them from Ideola’s Garage when he was in Plymouth. If no one wants the car, just the seats can be had for $250.
