Hi all,

I really enjoyed building and driving the car, but I am eager to start a new car project, so I'm selling the Locost to free up some cash and space. It took me three years to build the car, which was completed/registered in 2007.

I used a 1982 Toyota Corolla for a donor drivetrain, from which I used the following parts:

  • Engine (1.8 Litre 3TC)
  • 5 speed transmission
  • Driveshaft (which I took to a driveline shop to get shortened and balanced
  • Solid rear axle
  • Steering column
  • Speedometer and tachometer
  • Wiring harness

Other donor parts are:

Front hubs from a 1985 Toyota van (which uses double wishbone suspension, as opposed to the MacPherson strut of the Corolla)

Steering rack from a 1980 Toyota Tercel (the Corolla donor used a steering box)

Radiator from a Suzuki Swift (the radiator from the donor Corolla was too wide to fit under the nose cone)

I didn't rebuild the engine from the donor car, but did put on a new fuel pump, spark plugs, spark plug seals, alternator and starter. The donor car had 227,000 kms on it and I have put about 4000 kms on the Locost since I completed it in 2007

Here is a link to a youtube video of it:

The car weighs 1380 lbs. It does not have bumpers, windshield wipers or a heater, so you'll need to check your local laws. Car is located in Surrey, British Columbia.

Looking for $8500.

Thanks for looking!

It would be hard to build it for less!

Looks like a very well built car. What is your next project going to be?

The next project is going to be a scratch built car that loosely resembles a 1932 Ford Vicky. now that my wife and I have kids, I want to build something big enough to take the whole family along for cruising. The Locost is great fun, but with only two seats, it's like going to Disneyland and not being able to bring your kids with you to enjoy the fun. Construction methods for the new car will be along the lines of what is outlined in this E-book:

Right before I opened my own auto restoration business I was working for a dealership. I happened to look toward the parking lot one day and saw a family with 3 children emerge from a 33 or later Oldsmobile Sedan "resto-rod". The parts manager said that he was a Dr. and built hot rods in his home shop. I walked out to inspect the car and it was very very well done.

I think you have an excellent idea.
