It's got the S/R badges on it. I'm not sure how to tell if it's a real S/R or if someone stuck stickers on it. I'm not sure the dealer selling it would have a clue either way. If it's real, not a bad price. If it's fake, way too expensive.
It is a nice yellow color.

It's the correct wheels for the later S/R's. They were the 'daisywheels' that were planed for the never released Mercury coupe version.
Would the VIN not tell you?
Not sure why anyone would fake a ZX2 S/R since no one would know what it is anyway ;P
I would love to have one.
In reply to spitfirebill :
I've done some googling, and, supposedly nothing in the VIN gives it away. https://www.feoa.net/threads/zx2-s-r-vin-id.91209/
The seat fabric is apparently unique and is one way to identify an S/R, along with the wheels as Adrian said.
If we could look at the ECU, the S/R-specific ECU is another clue.

I'm leaning towards legit, which makes it pretty rare. (As rare as American Escorts get, anyway.)
Per wikipedia. I think you would have look at equipment on the car also.
"The optional S/R package adds stiffer suspension parts (Eibach springs (M-5560-Z2), Tokico struts (M-18000-Z2) and Energy Suspension brand polyurethane suspension bushings), more power (through a Ford Racing PCM (M-12650-Z2)), more efficient intake (Roush or Iceman), rear disc brakes (M-2300-Z2), a stronger clutch (Centerforce dual friction M-7560-Z2), a short-throw B&M manual-transmission shifter (M-7210-Z2), an S/R-unique shift knob (M-7213-Z2) and boot (M-7277-Z2), upgraded seats, a unique blue valve cover, a different speed cluster that goes up to 150 mph (240 km/h) and a unique tire/wheel package. Engine power was increased 10% over the base Zetec engine used in the ZX2 to 143 bhp (107 kW; 145 PS), courtesy of a recommended premium fuel re-calibration, new air inlet system, the performance PCM, improved Borla muffler and pipe (M-5230-Z2). All ZX2 S/R have a special "S/R" badge on the back, either silver (on a red car) or red (on a yellow or black car). Some S/R went out of the assembly plant without some of the performance mods (example: missing the Centerforce clutch). The suspension bushings were not installed at the factory but instead packaged with the car for installation at the dealership. This also led to many cars leaving the showroom without the full complement of S/R parts."
It's on the internet so it has to be true. Right?

Looks like a 150mph speedo.
I always loved these cars. However, I test drove a brand-new one & left somewhat disappointed. Maybe it was the fact it was brand new, but it couldn’t touch a Neon(ACR or R/T) in acceleration or handling.
If this car was Challenge-priced I’d be figuring out a way to get it though!
Looks like it’s at a BHPH lot close to where my wife works. If I wanted an “oddball” future collectible right now, I’d be interested.
Neat car. Could be fun but as I seem to remeber from the days when they were new, all the stuff that makes it different is the stuff that wears out as it ages.
Genuine unique:
- 10% ECU bump
- rear disks
- seat stiching, meh
- 150 speedo, which it can't go that fast, meh
- exterior sticker
All the others are just aftermarket parts that could be financed in with the initial purchase price such as Centerforce, B&M, Borla, etc
Though, at just 98k miles on this one, a lot of that could still be good.
Saw a friend last night. That exact car (or at least pic) was for sale up here in Michigan a couple of weeks ago. The advertised price was $1,234, but when they called it suddenly jumped to $2,500. That was the end of their conversation with the seller. I wonder if someone bought it and flipped it?
