Is that chain holding the engine upright?
Someone’s built themselves a Crossfire cart.
edit: seems Cooter beat me to it.
... with a muffler tube roll bar.

Looks thicker wall than that.
(Mind the gap.)
The stuff in German is because it was a joint MB project, based on the CLK. If you ever see one at a show, just hang around for a few minutes, the owner will tell you "it's pretty much a Mercedes"
I always wondered what the Chrysler Lebaron/Maserati guys bought when they were ready for a new car, now we know.
Am I the only one intrigued that Corvette wheels fit on The Crossfire?

"Fit" and "Crossfire" are both relative terms in this example.
That was a Honda ST1100 or ST1300. The VFR engine is transverse.

It's pretty much a Mercedes.
Mercedes Platform
Mercedes Engine
Mercedes Suspension
Mercedes Transmission
Built in Germany
Wasn't this the first vehicle ever sold on the Overstock website, too?
In reply to John Welsh (Moderate Supporter) :
My quick internet-based research says there's about 8.5mm of difference in the bolt circle between a Crossfire and a C4 Corvette. Based on the roll cage I wouldn't be surprised if the builder figured that was close enough.
In reply to pres589 (djronnebaum) :
This even the Crossfire rearend or is it a corvette rearend? Bracing in the back looks like holding something.
Crossfires drove nothing like a Chrysler but everything like a Benz.
It's built on the R170 SLK platform, swapping the metal roof for either a hard top or canvas roof.
Normally my first question is, "How much?" In this case it's "WHY?" Not that I'm criticizing, just curious. People often ask why my 68 Suburban has a 455 Buick engine.
In reply to escort1991 :
Who knows. Call him and find out? I would think there would have to be something done to make those wheels fit on that car, either through an IRS swap or some kind of adapters.
There's a lot of things going on in these pictures that don't make sense.
What do y’all think that frond suspension on the Honda tadpole came from? I need one about that size.
In reply to 03Panther :
Very likely the c4 the wheels on back of the crossfire came from
Ok, I’m obviously still asleep this am... that makes perfect sense! Good job.
The Crossfire is 100% a Mercedes R170 SLK320 assembled by Karmann. That manual trans is the same as a manual TJ Jeep Wrangler of the same model year.
They're... fine. This build may have improved the car.
In reply to Brake_L8 (Forum Supporter) :
Indeed it has improved it. Now someone over 5'6" tall can drive it.

Nothing like a good truck transmission in your sports car!
