This special-ordered 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera is 1 of 16 delivered to the U.S. market with the M491 package. While the M491 is officially known as the Supersport, many commonly call it the “Turbo Look.”

I beg to differ on one specific point with this car.  I also have a US spec '87 Turbo-Look only mine is in Guards Red with a Champagne leather interior.  I picked it up at the factory in Zuffenhausen February 12, 1987 and it only has 49,000 miles on it as well.  The slant nose was a Werks 1 option which I had originally wanted on my build until I found out what would be required.   They would completely build my car in the main factory, standard fenders and all and then prior to delivery they would take my car across the street to the Werks 1 facility, strip off the original fenders and replace them with the slant nose and in the process charging me for both sets of fenders.  I said thanks but no thanks.  The issue I have with the car above is with the lower front valence.  That is not Porsche factory standard nor is it a factory option.  That was an upgrade that was offered by Alois Ruf.  It has an integrated oil cooler in the front opening you can see in the first photo.  Anyone wanting to confirm this just has to look at Ruf's Yellowbird project car.  Another PCA Germany Region member had a '86 Turbo with that Ruf valence as well.  Personally I think it adds something to the car and I regret not getting one installed on my own car when I was at Ruf's Pfaffenhausen facility.  I just wanted to set the record straight by providing additional information not provided in the article.
