The car has been preserved very carefully since then, and has minimal wear present on the chrome / original windshield which
can be buffed out, and some of the rubber window lining which can be easily replaced.

Fully restored and upgraded 1959 Daimler-Benz (Mercedes-Benz) 220SE Coupe 4-Speed. Restoration began / completed in 2009 and took place at a family member's Volkswagen Dealership using only professional utilities. The original car was disassembled and repainted, the engine, transmission, and rear differential were rebuilt, and the suspension, steering, and brakes were overhauled.
The 220SE model was introduced in late 1958 as the final evolution of the Ponton platform’s six-cylinder variants. This example is one of the 830 coupes produced during the model’s run and was repainted in a base/clear version of the factory white during the restoration. Additional work included replacing the tail lamp assemblies, floor pans, trunk lid, trunk badge, and trunk handle, refurbishing headlamps, grille, and Hella driving lamps, re-plating or replacing trim and moldings, and installing reproduction bumpers, and replacing the weatherstripping.
The car is fitted with 15″ steel wheels, full covers, and Michelin Primacy tires. During the restoration, the four-wheel drum braking system, steering system, and suspension were overhauled. The interior refurbishment included a replacement Mercedes-Benz steering wheel assembly, Dynamatted inner panels, a custom-fabricated burled oak dashboard and garnish moldings, red vinyl reproduction upholstery for the seats, lower dash, and door panels, a replaced headliner, a restored steering column and clock, replaced door weather-stripping, replaced wiring, and restored or replaced switches and bright metal components. The cabin is also equipped with an optional day/night mirror, and the radio does not work. The gauge cluster was rebuilt during the restoration, and the odometer numbers were repainted by hand. That odometer now shows around 24k miles.
The 2.2-liter M127 inline-six was and its Bosch mechanical fuel injection system were built in 2009, as were the distributor and radiator. The valve cover and intake manifold were treated with POR 15, and the coolant hoses, drive belts, engine mounts, wiring harnesses, and ignition leads were also replaced at that time. The engine bay was also stripped and refinished. The four-speed manual transmission and rear differential were rebuilt in 2009. The clutch assembly was also replaced at that time, and a stainless steel exhaust system was installed. The shift bushings were replaced in preparation for the sale.
