It looked like Tim was applying the heat directly to the bolt. Wouldn't that make the bolt expand and just get tighter?

Thanks Tim for the reminder on how to deal with these creative solution opportunities.

One other option to consider:  In some cases before drilling and tapping with the easy-out is to see if you can modify the screw head to accept another tool. This especially works for pan head and other screw types where the head is above the surrounding surface.  Examples would be cutting a cross slot for a flat blade screwdriver when the slot for the phillips or other drivers has been worn out.  Another example is grinding flat surfaces on opposing sides of the screw head so you can get awrench or some pliers/channel locks on it.  For these screw types, there are also eay-outs that wrap out the screw head and bite into the sides as you attempt to loosen the screw.

And yes, it is always best if possible to put the head on the nut or the surrounding female thread so the  expansion can occur there and away from the threaded screw.

I've had great results with seafoams deep creep product.. Really has worked for me on numerous occasions. Ex, my 60 year old exhaust manifold gasket removal on my 63 Comet to the power seat workings on the 09 mustang convertible I just bought. No back and forth movement, sprayed every moving piece I could spot. Day or two later after reinstalling the seat. Does everything it's supposed to, and smoothly... Great product
