The seller of this vehicle references "Classic Motorsport Magazine" and says that this vehicle used to be owned by "Andy"... Is that our "Classic Motorsports Magazine"?
and if so: "Andy", your car is for sale! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Alfa-Romeo-Other-2-5-Coupe-2-Door-1986-alfa-romeo-gtv-6-2-5-coupe-2-door-2-5-l-/161038305606?pt=US_Cars_Trucks
Beautiful example of a GTV6 though, I tell you what.
Yep, that's Andy's old GTV6.
I got to drive it on the roads surrounding Road America a few years ago. The description is accurate--- it's one of the nicest original GTV6s around. Although not very fast, it handled well, and sounded glorious! I'd think someday soon these will be $30K cars, instead of $10-$15K.
The shift linkage was the only let-down. Think drumstick in a bowl of jello--- very vague--- like a Porsche 914. Still a very cool car though.

I've never driven one, but I want one badly.
For some reason, this just shook loose in my head the memory that one of the Nordschleife rental places used to have a fleet of these; some closer to stock, some making 300hp and on slicks...

Man, I hope you're right
(Not that I plan on selling mine any time soon )
The shift linkage is not quite as bad as Joe makes it out to be. It is a transaxle car and it is a long linkage. About the same as a 928 Porsche.
It is my car, it is a late model car and near the last of the run but there is nothing that proves that it is the last car built.
That being said it sounds like it is in as nice shape as it was when I owned it and now has a ton of spares.
Nope Andy------ that shifter was pretty bad!
Maybe not 914 bad......but pretty bad nonetheless. It was the only part of the car that I didn't like. If it weren't for the shifter I'd have one on my short list.
See Joe, now you're just whining. It's honestly not as bad as you're making out. I'd go as far as saying it was close to my two 944's in terms of vagueness, when it's in good shape. You do have to watch the 2nd gear crunch, but it's something you learn to live with. The beauty of the GTV6 though is taking it on track or your favorite mountain road. It's not the same as say a Miata, but you can get it into nice drifts. I miss mine.
I've never driven one, but I hear the difference between bad and not that bad on the shifter is down to wear on the linkage, so if it is bad maybe need to do some maintenance? Also when people say "not that fast" I am assuming they mean "in a straight line" ie 0-60 1/4 mile stuff. Again I've never driven one but I am thinking for the day on a twisty road...pretty fast.
Don't get me wrong.... I liked Andy's GTV6.....a lot. The "not so fast" comment was mainly straight line speed, as I didn't get a chance to take it on track. It had very similar power to say a 1984 Toyota Supra. For reference maybe mid 8 second 0-60 and a mid 16 second 1/4 mile. Fast enough to be fun, but not a powerhouse. The sound compensates for the lack of grunt though.
and sorry...... I stand by my shifter-feel opinion. I've driven all sorts of cars-- some in terribly neglected shape-- and the gearbox in the Alfa was disappointing. I'm a big fan of tactile feedback (steering feedback / throttle response / gearbox feel) and in that one category the GTV6 fails. I also tend to think the bushings were fresh, as Andy is pretty meticulous about his cars.

Funny... I've never driven a GTV, but I had the same feeling about my E30. It was horrific when I bought it and then after replacing every shifter part that could be replaced it brought the shift feel up to "slightly less horrific". The 5 spd shifter in my Cummins has a more percise feel.
With just 20 hours left, the price is still surprisingly low. Somebody snatch this up. $11k is a major steal for this car.
