My guy is moving out of the state. I recently sold most my tools and moved into an apartment. But I've been kicking around the idea of buying a 80s "muscle" car. Was hoping someone here knew an honest mechanic I could take it to for pre purchase inspections and also keep it running while I own it without it costing me a small fortune.

Try John West Auto. Off New Bern Avenue just outside the Beltline.
Cool. I'll add him to the list to checkout.
Who were you using?
There are two specialty shops in the general area.
I've seen the work these guys do, it is pretty good:

These guys also have a good reputation:

I've used Happy Japs (unfortunate name) in Cary for import work. The owner is an SCAA racer. He's suggested Cricket's in Cary for general domestic work.

I have tried John West and no doubt they are very good at their work.
Awesome, glad to here there's some decent mechanics in the area. As I've just moved to Cary. Sounds like Crickets would be good for general maintenance stuff.
Unrelated, but since we got people in the area here. If anyone knows a decent shape G-Body Malibu coupe for sale let me know. Also if anyone wants to kick some tires on some Malibus on Craigslist and help me find something nice, I'll get ya some lunch and beer for your time. I'm not the best at spotting hidden rust or lemons.
I'm not much of a classic car guy, but there is a guy up the way that has a ton of Chevelle type cars in his yard.
