Everyone wants to get the jump on the next generation of valuable classic cars before the window closes, but if you act now on this Honda S2000, you can be ahead of the curve. The spiritual successor to the Honda S600 and S800, the S2000 briefly held the record for highest output of a naturall…

Brilliant cars. The usual so-so Japanese styling is only a minor detraction.

We've seen some of these engines transplanted into traditional vintage sports cars - an MGA and a Morgan are two that I am aware of. But they lack the excellent handling of the S2000 of course.

Always thought that Honda missed a bet by not creating a straight 6 version a la Toyota Supra. A 3 liter 360 bhp would sound great near red line. (If you don't think so, listen to n S54 BMW six up at red line - 7,900 rpm - some time!)

Another Honda inline six, based on a previous inline four, that sounds wonderful is the engine in the CBX.  If they could pull that off in some kind of M3 / 928 / etc sport touring car... But I think that ship has sailed at Honda.

I recall the CBX and always thought that the small physical size of the bike engines would lend themselves to creating a small displacement V12, which would be really neat (the CBX exhaust looked just great and two banks would have looked even better).  Little chance of that - if they ever did a V12 it would no doubt use the cylinder geometry of an existing V6 car engine.

Always had a 'thing' for the Toyota Century V12.....

While it isn't an inline 6, Honda did make inline 5: The Honda G engine. We even got it stateside in the Acura Vigor and Acura 2.5 TL.

I've been eyeing the Vigor as a inexpensive first project car.

Interesting to see the market values for these on the rise.  Who knew that a comparable Boxster would be the bargain buy.

I don't think the Vigor engine was anything to brag about.  The whole car seemed to be Honda trying to copy a couple different Audi's at once.

In reply to pres589 (djronnebaum) :

I don't doubt that at all. I can't imagine the Vigor being a great performance car, but I just think its neat for the novelty of 5 cylinder Honda product.

the Boxster continues to be overshadowed by its newer self.

The s2000 aged very well and are just highly regarded because they drive so well and are fantastic to own. Not without faults, but they're very special cars.

Very few things rev like an s2000 and nothing that's RWD and near it's price does.

We had a 2004 S2000 as a long-term loaner back in the day, and I was lucky to attend several of the media launches, including the one for the CR and the AP2--where we ran it back-to-back on track against the AP1. Glad to see people still digging these cars.
