There are so many of these, notably the 1992 IMSA Camel GT at Lime Rock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybYlhF99D_s
- Mazda mufflers were previously catching on fire due to their super-hot exhaust gases, so this is the first race where they were re-engineered to handle it
- When drivers start their engines the rotaries dominate in decibels
- One of the first American races Mazda took part in after their Le Mans win the previous year
- Many Buick-powered cars
- Chevrolet GTPs with covered rear wheels
Also entertaining is the 1984 race at Riverside (which doesn't exist anymore): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuWhqZS3AXM
The commercials are absolutely hilarious.
I used to attend the IMSA races at Road America! I also got to see them at Laguna Seca once, as well as Mid Ohio & Mosport. And yes the Mazda's were LOUD! I went to races before they required mufflers! LOL! I have a super8 film of a trip to RA where I filmed them coming up the hill to turn #6 as the cars exited turn #5. Each time the RX7's came by their exhaust note drowned out all the other cars.
I know I haven't been around for awhile, but I still love this place. I actually started a YooToob thing to "file host" some of the stuff I had on VHS, and it turned into a monster! I've got some GTP.

I swear I'm not paddling a canoe here (I have NOT tried to 'monetize' my accidentally popular YT), I just saw y'all talking GTP and hope folks will get a kick out of it.

I liked the early HANS device at Lime Rock.
